ACCESS STATEMENT FOR ROOFTOP'S COTTAGE
Introduction
Rooftop's Cottage was built in 1780 and is tucked away in the town centre on the West Cliff. It is deceptively spacious with accommodation covering 3 floors and a converted cellar room used as a children’s playroom. Rooftops comprises of 3 bedrooms one of which is en suite, a cosy living room with a log burning stove and a dining kitchen. There is also a decked roof terrace with stunning views of the harbour accessed via the 3rd floor en suite.
The property is conveniently located for all the town centre attractions, the beach, railway & bus station, pubs, restaurants and grocery shops.
Arrival
There is a 40 minute parking zone on Brunswick Street outside ‘Gutsy Gingers’ shop. This is a good place to unload. Go down the 9 stone steps in front of Gutsy’s Gingers, at the bottom turn left onto Morrison’s Yard. Go along the passage down 2 more steps and the cottage is on the right, the front door is oak. Please take care if arriving in the dark.
Parking
There is some free street parking on this side of town. Drive down to the bottom of Brunswick Street, turn right, at the mini roundabout turn right onto Chubb Hill Road there is parking on both sides of this road, or carry on to next roundabout turn right (4th exit) on St Hilda’s Terrace, parking is on the right. Beware there are 40 minute zones along here as you get closer to town.
There is a large long stay car park near the Co-op, drive to the bottom of Brunswick Street and turn left, at the roundabout turn right and the car park is on the left. Instead of remembering to return to the car every day to renew the ticket, contact Tourist Information in Whitby and you’ll be able to purchase a parking permit to cover the duration of your stay. However this needs to be done approximately 2 weeks prior to the holiday.
About Rooftops Cottage
Once in the cottage the accommodation is over three floors with a playroom in the cellar. Through the front door is a small porch with coat hooks. A door to the left enters the living room which leads through to the dining kitchen. Though the back door, 1 step down to the coal/log storage containers.
Near the living room staircase to the left, 10 stairs will lead to the playroom. The light switch is at the top of the stairs on the left. The head height in the cellar is 5ft, 11 inches.
Up the 15 steps of the main staircase is the middle floor with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. A door on the left will take you up 13 stairs to the master bedroom, en suite shower room and decked roof terrace.
Playroom
There are 2 TV’s in here, one with a DVD player built in and the other connected to a PS2 games console with a vast collection of games to choose from. This room is great for keeping children entertained. There is also a selection of DVDs.
A cupboard is stocked with an array of outdoor beach toys and wind shelter. It also houses the iron, ironing board, vacuum, highchair, mop and bucket. The smaller cupboard has a condensing tumble dryer in it.
The window in this room opens fully in case of an emergency
Living Room
The living room contains a 3 seater sofa, a 2 seater sofa, an upholstered stool and a coffee table. The log burning stove sits on a stone hearth in a reclaimed oak and brick fireplace. There is a flat screen TV, BluRay DVD player, Freesat and music system.
Dining/Kitchen
The kitchen contains fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, gas hob and fan assisted oven. Smaller appliances include DAB radio, coffee machine, toaster and blender. The table can seat 7 people. It is fully equipped with china, glassware, cutlery and cooking utensils for 7 people. There is also a selection of plastic crockery for the younger visitors.
The combi boiler is housed in a cupboard (if required full operating instructions can be found in the information book).
First Floor
Up the 15 stairs with a turn will lead to a double bedroom, with a Abbey views and a king size bed with Egyptian cotton bed linen, bedside tables with lamps, alarm clock and quality hairdryer. There is a large built in wardrobe with plenty of wooden hangers and a chest of drawers.
Along the landing to the smaller bedroom with single bed and bunk beds, Egyptian cotton linen, chest of drawers, bedside, lamps and a large mirror. Opposite is the main bathroom comprising of white suite with shower over the bath, WC, pedestal wash basin and heated towel rail.
Second Floor
From the landing through the door up the 13 stairs with a turn to the master bedroom where there is a king size bed with Egyptian cotton linen, bedsides, over bed lighting, alarm clock with ipod dock, hairdryer, chest of drawers and wardrobe with wooden hangers. The electric blind will reveal the spectacular views of the Abbey at the touch of a button (you don’t even need to get out of bed).

Decked Roof Terrace
This is a wonderful vantage point to view the harbour, station and the rooftops of Whitby. It is a great place to sit in the sun, a table with 4 chairs and 2 deck chairs can be found in the outdoor storage container.
