What's on nearby?

The Lodge is located at Egton – you can walk into the village, which is picturesque with its village green, and enjoy drinks or supper in one of two award-wining inns, both renowned for their superb food.  There’s lots of lovely walks, being on the edge of the glorious North York Moors.

A short drive away is the village of Grosmont, famous for its small railway station with its steam trains – definitely worth a visit!  Travel the 18 mile journey on the North Yorkshire Steam Railway from Grosmont to Pickering for a great experience. – the Pullman dining train is a culinary delight!

A short drive and you arrive at Whitby – there’s so much to see and do, for all ages.  A much-loved, ancient seaside town and former fishing port, it’s one of the few seaside locations where the sun rises and sets over the same bay.

Enjoy its many attractions including the fascinating Whitby Museum, crazy golf on West Cliff, visit the famous whale bones and the iconic Whitby Abbey, inspiration for Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, which he wrote whilst staying at Whitby – its Visitor Centre, run by English Heritage, is excellent.  The brave can visit the Dracula Experience on the harbour-side, where you’ll hear the story of Dracula and the connections to Whitby!

The beaches are sandy and golden and the pretty harbour – with its famous swing bridge – is edged with stylish wine bars and award-winning restaurants.   Walk along the pier with its iconic lighthouse and look over the bay and across to Sandsend – wonderful as the sun is setting – or take some of our famous fish and chips and sit, enjoying the incomparable views.

Whitby has many independent, quaint shops selling wonderful ware from Whitby jet or hand-made soaps, to gifts, retro sweets, books, artwork and clothing.  There’s a market held in the old town or why not walk along Henrietta Street near The 199 Steps and visit Fortune’s Kippers – a smokehouse that’s been family-run for generations.

Whitby has a wide range of eateries – from traditional pubs and pie shops to award-winning restaurants and champagne bars and numerous fish and chip and seafood restaurants which attract visitors from all over the world.  There’s also cute cafes and tea rooms serving Whitby’s famous crab sandwiches or glorious home made cakes along with a pot of Yorkshire Tea, ideal to sit and relax, then continue, refreshed!

It’s also home to wonderful events that attract visitors from across the UK and overseas.  Two Goth Festivals, Folk Week or the wonderful Whitby Regatta, all popular extravaganzas that take place annually.

Walk along the beach from Whitby at low tide to Sandsend; with its golden sands, beach-front cafes, great local inn and award-wining restaurant.  Much loved by families, there is a small natural lagoon formed by the beck trickling towards the sea, a perfect spot for young children to paddle in.

Runswick Bay

The coastal road takes you to Runswick Bay with its beautiful crescent-shaped beach.  Feeling energetic?  The clifftop walk from Sandsend to Runswick Bay is wonderful (and you can get the bus back if you’re tired!)

Once a thriving fishing village, today Staithes is known as an artists’ colony; wander around the cobbled streets enjoying the galleries, have lunch at the beachfront inn or tea rooms; a lovely village with yesteryear charm.

Robin Hood’s Bay

Heading south down the coast is the former smuggler’s paradise of Robin Hood’s Bay.  A fascinating destination with tea rooms, quaint shops and inns, it has a lovely beach – you can go fossil hunting or just lie back and take in the sun!

The lodge was amazing, we get together as a group of friends from Uni for an early Christmas every year and we now have a mini member (Cora- just 2 years old) who loved the toy cupboard. The lodge is equipped to an extremely high standard, the checking in and correspondance was brilliant and was a lovely personal touch. The hot tub was clean, well kept and a lovely treat. The only problem is - we don't want to leave!!!

We loved our time in the hot tub it was very rewarding after days out walking. Feeding the wildlife was certainly a bonus. An absolutely stunning lodge and we will definitely be bringing the family back.

We had a great New Year break in the lodge. We have to say that the welcome and overall service we experienced is one of the best we have had. The lodge was perfect and enjoyed by all the family. The Toy cupboard was a dream for our two children (age 4 and 5) and everything was very well played with and investigated! It was great to welcome in 2016 in the hot tub with a bottle of bubbly! Thank you especially for prompt assistance when required - very much appreciated. We hope to stay with you again in the future. xxxx P.S. the welcome pack was such a nice touch!
The Peibst Family; January 2016
We had a great stay! Gorgeous lodge (we want to live here). Really loved the hot tub, especially with snow and ice on the deck. Thank you for the welcome pack as we came in. My brother and I loved the cupboard of toys and went in there a lot for all the wonderful toys. We put some food and seed for the birds and my Granny and Grandad loved to watch them flying around the lodge, you could see the birds from the hot tub too. Thanks again, hope to come back soon (very soon).
Alice age 9 nearly 10. (And George!)
June 2015 We've just spent a fabulous week at Bracken Howe Lodge - what a magnificent property. Languishing in the hot tub was so relaxing - a proper de-stress from our busy jobs. We decided to put wild bird food out each day and were treated to an entertaining ritual on the bird feeders every morning. Also, we saw tree creepers, a golden pheasant and a gold crest! This is in addition to the blue, coal and great tits, robins, jays and chaffinches. We feel so refreshed that we'd like to revisit next year.

June 2015 What a fantastic find! A wonderful lodge with breath-taking surroundings - absolutely beautiful - especially whilst sat in the hot tub relaxing with a wine! The lodge is lovely and spacious, exceptionally clean and well-equipped. Our baby (15 months) absolutely loved the toy cupboard spending most of her time there! We've had such a fantastic weekend in Bracken Howe Lodge; everything has exceeded our expectations and we definitely will be returning and also recommending this park to our family and friends. Thank you very, very much!
The Bradbury/Williams/Buckley Party, Warrington/Manchester
6th – 13th October 2014 What a find, a fabulous property. This really exceeded our expectations - beautifully furnishes and equipped. The hot tub was well used - morning, noon and night. If it's missing when the next guests arrive, you'll find it at one of these addresses! We suggest guests fill the bird feeders as you'll be entertained every morning with an array of birds. We travelled around quite a bit during the week as this is an ideal base for reaching different places. The couple managing the reception were very friendly and helpful. We will sure to be back.
Haywood party, Birmingham
This was our first visit to this part of the country; the setting of this accommodation is peaceful and tranquil, The interior decor was certainly to our liking and exceeded our expectations. The extras such as liquid soap, cleaning products and complimentary basket were very much appreciated. When we relaxed in the hot tub my teenage children insisted this was a 'must have' at home - definitely the icing on the cake! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family and friends.
The Nash Family
Beautiful lodge, very peaceful surroundings. Whitby was a great place - so much to do. We all especially enjoyed crabbing by the harbour at high tide and rowing at Ruswarp, lots of fun!
