Old Chapel

A rare find!

A beautiful conversion, spacious, light and airy, extremely comfortable with a quality finish throughout and everything you need and more. The chapel has direct access to a footpath to the cricket field, a real bonus for dog owners. We parked up and left our car for the entire week, walking the lovely coast paths and cinder track, hopping on and off buses between destinations, which pass through the village at regular intervals. Don’t miss the fish and chip van which stops outside the Red Lion on a Thursday at 6pm! Our thanks to the caring owners who also left welcoming gifts to kick start our holiday! We will definitely be back.

The old Chapel was a delightful place to stay and perfectly positioned to explore the N Yorkshire coast and moors.

We loved saltburn down to Bridlington, the NYM steam(less) railway and the excellent buses. The owner Jean was absolutely lovely. Thank you for a great stay.

The Old Chapel is a delightful place to stay.

Tucked away from the main road but with good access thereto. Adequate space for car parking. The Old Chapel contains all you need from home to home. This includes dishwasher and washing machine. Local pubs within walking distance. A really enjoyable place to stay.

I would 100% recommend the accomodation,it was really lovely, clean and with very comfortable beds.

It is very well equipped everything needed for a home from home break. The shower is also really good and very powerful. I am looking forward to a return visit next year.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Chapel.

Upon arrival, it was clear the standards of cleanliness were high and the whole cottage was incredibly welcoming. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and the bedrooms were very comfortable. It's in the perfect location for visiting both Scarborough and Whitby and, despite being on a main road, the traffic noise was minimal. We would definitely return.

What wonderful accommodation the old chapel was exceptional.

Everything in the property was pristine I think it’s the best holiday let we have ever stayed in the only downside being we should have booked for two weeks instead of one we will most definitely return for another stay it’s situated in a beautiful village and is top notch

A wonderful little chapel, full of character and space.

The kitchen had everything you needed. Beds were super comfy too. The little bonus was the cricket field two minutes walk from the chapel. The only thing we struggle with was the parking as the space outside the chapel is very narrow but we cracked it in the end

From the moment we arrived,we knew we had found somewhere special,beautiful accommodation in a brilliant spot ,we used the local bus route to Robin Hood Bay Whitby and Scarborough.

Fabulous conversion - warm, well equipped, comfy beds and sofa's.

Rooms are more spacious than in the photographs. Lots of little details like map on the wall, loads of plug sockets, retractable washing line. Good location to explore local coastline and towns. Lovely welcome of teabags and wine! We hope to return Thank you.

The Old Chapel is a beautiful property set in a small village with good amenities.

The property was beautifully presented with everything needed for our holiday stay. It was warm and cosy and we would certainly recommend. There was a lovely walk to the cricket field and surrounding fields to take our dog. There is easy access to the beach at Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby either by car or bus. A big thank you to Jean for her hospitality.

A really nice property in a good position and excellently positioned if you want to use the local bus service to Whitby or Scarborough.

If you drive there is good parking available alongside the property. Two accessible pubs that provide food. The Old Chapel ticks all boxes with good facilities and furnishing. We look forward to our return.

We had a wonderful stay in Old Chapel during the middle of August.

The cottage was clean and comfortable throughout, with all the equipment you could want. Beds were very comfortable and we all slept really well The courtyard was great to let the dog into, and the cricket club at the bottom of the footpath was perfect for early morning walks. The cottage was well situated to explore the North Yorkshire coastline and moors, and was a lovely home from home to come back to in the evening. There are comments about parking being difficult, but once you got used to it, it was fine. The only slight issue we had were the stairs which were a little slippery with not having carpet, but with shoes on, it was nothing to worry about.

Wow factor on entering. It has comfy settees, comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen. Spotlessly clean. Lovely peaceful setting yet near to lots of places to visit. Good wifi signal. Lovely welcoming gift...much appreciated. Would definitely return.

We had a fantastic time at The Old Chapel, it was the perfect place for our family holiday.

A really lovely property with some interesting features and a little bit of history. Cloughton is a beautiful village filled with friendly people. We were lucky enough to visit during the Perseids meteor shower so walked the short distance to the coast to watch for shooting stars. Very close to Scarborough and also quite close to Whitby. We ate some incredible food out and also had a takeaway at home. We loved chilling in the living room. The lighting was cosy and versatile - we were able to sit on one sofa with the lights low and our daughter was sat on the other sofa drawing with light on above her so she could see. Sofas were very comfortable (maybe too comfortable as I kept falling asleep!) The kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc and the Yorkshire tea bags were very much appreciated (Yorkshire tea is the best tea!!). The neighbour was also really lovely! Definitely recommended for families, couples or friends!

A beautiful cottage with everything you need in a gorgeous little village 5*

A lovely little cottage on a quiet backlane, a stones throw from several lovely walks.

.. They even provide a blanket to protect the couches from your dogs. So many couches are naive enough to believe you can keep your dogs off the couch when you are fast asleep, as if. :) The parking is a little tight but you can park on the main road without any bother.

Brilliant in all aspects.

When it was described as dog friendly it was an accurate claim. Garden fence doubly secure with chicken wire to prevent dog escapes. Not all gardens provide secure areas and we have been to plenty of holiday homes that aren't. A perfect holiday getaway with loads of places to visit nearby.

Nice comfortable accommodation.

But could do with a bit of tic. And some minor maintenance and refurbishing. But all in all a nice place.

Without a doubt the best place we have stayed in, I cannot fault it.

The location, the cleanliness, the facilities, absolutely perfect. Great communication from Jean and very good value for money!

The Old Chapel simply could not be better.

Beautiful restoration of an old chapel, lovely and comfortable accommodation with superb attention to detail. The area is beautiful to explore with so much to do; the week just went so quickly! The owners are extremely helpful and considerate. Our first visit and I understand why so many people keep returning. Absolutely 10 out of 10!

Lovely property which is far better than its photographs.

Despite others comments, there was no problem okay? re parking and we have a large 4 x4 Jeep - just tucked it in next to the wall. The property provided everything we needed and more. Tastefully decorated for Christmas which was a bonus. It was nice and quiet too, just far enough off the main road to avoid any traffic noise.

The Old Chapel was brilliant, everything you could possibly need.

It's homely spotless areal gem. The reason I gave it a mark of 9 and not 10 was the parking which is very tight. I would recommend you park on the road at the front of the property in the first instance

Easy to find right on the coastal path and the bus route if you don't feel like moving your car once you are there.

We have absolutely loved staying at the old chapel,great for visiting places and for walking from .

It worked v well for us , having our children come N go too.The owners were v responsive and generous with us.

Our second trip to the The Old Chapel and certainly won't be our last.

Lovely, comfortable & homely house. Perfect base for all the lovely places to visit & we found so much more this & still have plenty to see. Jean & Rob have a beautiful place & perfectly kept ❤️ only thing I feel is missing is a chair in the bedroom but this is just personal taste. We will return to carry on our adventures .

The Old Chapel was far and away the cleanest, best kept and best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. Well done Jean and Rob.

It was a great experience lonely place to stay village was great and the Blacksmith arms do fantastic food and are so good with dogs had a wonderful time

A charming little cottage with everything you could ask for.

Very clean and beds were lovely and comfortable, plenty of hot water too. The only thing we found was the toilet in the bathroom was leaking from the bottom of the cistern ( but easily mopped up ). Parking is a bit tight but we managed OK and have a big car . Lovely welcome pack on arrival . The only thing that spoilt our holiday was the horrendous weather , so cut our stay short by 2 days.

The Old Chapel was absolutely perfect for a base.

It was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and extremely well equipped. The owners attention to detail was excellent. I noticed some previous comments about the tightness of the parking but was glad that I didn't let that put me off. There are in fact two options, one at the front of the property or inside the gate, we wanted a secure area for the dog so chose the former. It was fine! We had a call from the owner Jean a few days before who was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this property and would stay here again should we return to the area.

Pleasant cottage with two good sized bedrooms, location is excellent for access to the N.

York Moors. The parking permit for Scarborough town centre was very useful. Spiral staircase could be a problem for some but fine for us. As mentioned in other reviews, getting a car onto the drive isn't easy, but not a major problem as we had a small car. We stayed for ten days and the cottage was well equipped for longer stays.

Absolutely gem!

Upon opening the door, we was greeted with a lovely sight, absolutely over the moon and the welcoming gift was a nice touch... Parking a little tight but luckily we only have a small car, all in all a great stay with pubs either side.

We found the property, a beautifully converted Methodist chapel, to be very comfortable, clean and all the facilities you could wish for.

The visitor has the option to set their own temperature with a very easy to use controller. Parking is off road at the side of the chapel which is a bonus and there are plenty of dog walks within easy distance of the property. The only reason we didn’t give our stay a ten was the big gamble trying to get out of the lane from the chapel onto the main road. Cars park either side of the opening and you end up having to edge out onto the road and it’s very nerve racking. A traffic mirror placed across the road would be a tremendous help. Other than that point we enjoyed our stay very much.

A wonderful place to stay in a lovely location.

Excellent, spacious, comfortable home-from-home with super facilities and much care and attention into what you might need while staying. Well positioned, just a one-mile walk to the coast at Cloughton Wyke and with plenty of great local walks / paths (and the cinder track for cycling). Easy to get to a wide variety of beautiful and interesting spots. We will return.

Even before our arrival Jean the owner called to check in with us & hoped we would have a lovely holiday.

The old Chapel was everything we wanted & more, a perfect base for our week. Only down side is we should of stopped longer, we hope to return one day soon.

We were left a lovely welcome gift. A real home from home, the owners had thought of everything from dishwasher tablets, dog food bowls to wash powder, really nice little extras thank you.

Absolutely fantastic little place to stay.

Chapel was spotless and very well appointed. Parking for me was not an issue. We were in a discovery which would fit in the Parking area. However if your not confident with that you can easily use the area at the front of the building. Couple of great pubs within half a mile, especially the Blacksmiths Arms. Great food, and very welcoming. Dogs were made to feel really welcome. Nice walks along the old railway line. Absolutely loved my stay here, and will definitely stay again.

Lovely cottage, very comfortable and well equipped, probably one of the best self catering holidays we have had.

The only minor issues were the difficulty parking due to the very tight space, however once you have done it a couple of times it is fine. It might be worth mentioning it for people with MPVs etc. Also my wife felt having some casserole dishes would have been good. However it is a fantastic property and we will return.

A beautiful chapel conversion with everything you could possibly need. Owner Jean very hands on and available at the end of the phone, even phoning before hand to see if anything was needed before our stay. Ideal location, just a few miles from the busy towns of Whitby and Scarborough but close enough to get to many places without the hassle of finding parking. Would highly recommend !!

The 'Old Chapel' was perfectly located for what we wanted to do, walk,walk,walk.

along the coast and Cinder Track. All the facilities were there, making for an enjoyable stay. The only downside was parking our large vehicle in the rather small space available. Unfortunately we had to park across the road at the Granary which was no problem to neighbours thankfully. A smaller car would be ok though. Thank you Jean, we hope to return in the future.

This was a brilliant place to spend Christmas.

It was warm, comfortable, clean and well-equipped. We had a great time exploring the area with walks along the cinder track and cliff path. We had plenty of wet weather but having a lovely warm place to return to meant it didn't matter. We would love to stay here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Chapel, our only regret is that we did not book it for longer, as 3 nights just wasn't enough!

It was very well equipped with everything we needed for our stay, and was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The location is perfect, 2 minutes to the cinder track to walk the dogs (which can take you to Robin Hoods Bay or Scarborough) and we discovered a lovely welcoming pub called The Hayburn Wyke Inn, which is located 2 miles along the path towards the North. The Old Chapel is warm and welcoming and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Its a lovely house.

Great catchment area.used the bus that stops more or less bang outside. Visited whitby,Scarborough, did the walk to hayburn wyke waterfall. And visited the wyke inn. Which is a lovely pub serving good homemade food. 2 lovely local pubs within 2 minutes walk from house. The house was lovely and clean. Modern. Theres a nice little field near the house to take the dogs for a quick walk. Will definitely use again

The Old Chapel was very comfortable, warm and quiet and all the required facilites were available and in good order.

The situation was perfect for walkkng the wonderful Yorkshire coast with the proximity to Scarborough being ideal for shopping and entertainment.

Lovely cottage which included all the mod cons we use such as good wifi and smart TV. I found the parking fine with a Golf although it may be a bit tight if you have a large car. I would suggest if your cyclists take some good locks as there isn’t anywhere to store bikes. Well done to the owners as they seem to have thought of everything. We would definitely stay here again.

Our stay at The Old Chapel was perfect.

Our hosts provided loads of useful information on our stay and the locality. The cottage was spotless and so comfy. The location was great for walking along the Cleveland Way and Cinder Track. We visited Scarborough, Filey, Whitby and the National Park. A week was not long enough; we will return.

It was very well equipped, clean and in a great location to explore the beautiful North Yorkshire coast. The parking was not really an issue as others had said. The Prosecco and Yorkshire Tea which had been left for us were a nice treat! We would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful village.

We found the Old Chapel to be extremely comfortable and very clean.

It was equipped with everything we needed and more considering the current climate. We had thought it might be devoid of cosy extras like cushions and throws or books and DVD's but the Chapel had everything. The parking was a little tight but we managed ok. And obviously that is something the owners have no control over. The only other thing might be to have a notice to inform people how very hot the water is! Certainly no problem getting a hot powerful shower! In all we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend it.

The Old Chapel is lovely, very cosy, well maintained and in a fabulous location for a variety of walks.

The only criticism I would have is the same as most people have commented on and that is the parking. Whilst I know there is nothing that can be done about the space, there is some improvement that could be made. We have been to this property twice this year, the first time we used the driveway and this time the parking space at the front because we wanted to give our dog outside freedom of the driveway space. Although the parking is tight at the front, it can be done (even in a smaller 4 x 4). However, this takes a bit of manoeuvring back and forth to get it right with the wheels just about off the road. The problem arises when the tyres skid on the gravel which very nearly led to a scape on the wall. This would be greatly alleviated if both areas were paved rather than gravelled with a smooth slope to the edge rather than wooden kerbing. It would also eliminate the gravel being spread across the lane and having to be swept up. Whilst we were there, the Red Bull was closed but the Blacksmiths Arms, a few minutes away served good food. This time of year beware of ticks, make sure you treat your dog just before you go!

Great use of the space available.

We found getting on and off the drive difficult.

Also several times met other cars coming onto or down the lane when we came onto it. Can’t see traffic coming on the main road when you’re wanting to pull out. I know you can’t do anything about this but I think others considering booking may need to know - especially if the are nervous drivers or have large cars. We had a lovely holiday though xx

Very relaxing stay in a superb location, just what was needed in this craziest of years !

The cottage was very clean, comfortable and had everything you could need. Lots of dog friendly pubs on your doorstep, just a shame there’s no village shop.

Lovely cottage, very well equipped and clean, parking was quite awkward, anyone with a big car would really struggle as it was quite tight.

We had a Ford Focus and it just fit. Great open plan layout with very comfy bed. Overall a lovely cottage and well placed for a couple of pubs and Scarborough a short drive away.

The double bed was very comfortable as was one of the single beds but the single mattress under the velux window was very soft and quite uncomfortable.

The tin opener didn't work. There was no outside tap for rinsing sand off wetsuits and other beach stuff which would have been very useful. But otherwise the place was faultless

it was the perfect base for exploring the east coast . and the best thing was a free bottle of wine and packet of Yorkshire tea lol.

But this is a beautiful property in a convenient location for Scarborough & surrounding area. Excellent use of space with great facilities.

Beautiful old chapel reinvented to a high standard.

Close to good walks and pubs . Only draw back too close to other properties neighbour had very powerful security light which shone straight into bedroom on a evening . We found parking was not a problem and we have a estate car . Overall a beautiful property .

Excellent property exactly as shown in pictures.

Owners very helpful with contacting prior to arriving to provide arrival instructions. Property beautifully furnished and well equipped. Cinder track and coastal path nearby. As mentioned by other persons parking space is a bit tight for a larger car but as advised by owners it is easier if you turn at top of lane. Would definitely recommend.

As stated by previous reviews,parking outside the property can be problematic,especially with an estate car.

However,this did not spoil our stay.

Lovely little cottage.

Very modern facilities and near to lots of attractions. Only minor point to note is that parking is a bit tight.

The chapel was lovely and had all the things that we required.

The location was perfect to near to paths for walking, pubs for a drink and a meal. The only downside really was the parking but we stayed on the main road and the garden as the gate didn't form a secure area for our dogs to go outside.
