Clematis Cottage

This cottage fully matched the photographs.

It is well looked after and a high standard of cleanliness maintained. The position is delightful, quietly situated on a wooded estate, but within easy walking distance of the beach. If you are travelling with a dog, there are plenty of good dog friendly beaches. Our energetic spaniel had the time of his life!

I can honestly say l have nothing negative to say about this cottage.

It's stands in beautiful surroundings and is the perfect location for a peaceful stay but close enough to Whitby and Sandsend and other locations to enjoy all the areas have to offer. The cottage itself is just as shown in the images which is a refreshing change as I often find the pictures can be misleading and outdated. It is immaculately clean including crisp white bedding and fluffy white towels. It is furnished with high quality furniture and appliances and has everything you need that is maintained to a high standard. Good communication prior to arrival made it easy to locate, and information given within the cottage information packs covers everything you need. We had a small issue with the WIFI on arrival but was quickly resolved when we contacted Tony (Thank you Tony this was greatly appreciated) We would definitely recommend this cottage and are already looking to book a return visit. Its definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Superb property - we'll defo stay again if we're up there.

Great communication with owners too. Our only issue (nothing to do with cottage) was that the entrance speed bumps are WAY too high!!!

Great surroundings, very easy parking and overall a lovely place to stay. Well equipped, comfy sofas/beds, nice hot shower. If I’m being picky, a few of the higher places could do with a dust to get rid of some cobwebs! But on the whole it was clean and tidy. Great that it’s dog friendly, my Spaniel Nelly had a lovely time! I would suggest on lead when outside the cottage if your dog loves to explore like mine. There’s some quite steep drops, but still nice grassed areas for them to sniff and go to the toilet etc. Sandsend, one of my favourite places, is a 5 minute drive away. It’s quiet, dog friendly and has just enough there. A beautiful beach for long walks with the dog. A beachfront cafe which does the best prawn sandwiches! A chip shop which does takeaway at the hatch, perfect for taking back to the cottage in an evening. Then there’s ‘ The Hart Inn’ a cosy pub with a small beer garden, again beautiful food and very dog friendly (bar area and beer garden). Robin Hoods Bay & Whitby, also a short drive away and are great places to go. Without doubt, we will definitely be back to stay again at Clematis Cottage!

Clematis Cottage is a lovely property, well maintained and very clean, as well as being in a really nice location.

I'd certainly recommend it as a nice place to go for a break. We certainly enjoyed it.

We had a great stay in this lovely cottage , which was furnished to a high standard and had everything needed for a relaxing break.

There are lots of great walks , a good deli , cafes and restaurants in the area which are dog friendly. All in all a memorable stay !

The cottage was lovely and clean but the bed I found very uncomfortable, also the touch of having fresh flowers is very nice but maybe not lilly's as they smelt extremely strong and I had to put them outside.

Sykes information on how to find it is absolutely appalling it gives the wrong name of the hotel and the contact number is for a lady who used to work for the previous owner over a year ago ! God bless her she talked us into the area where the cottage is, but there are no directions anywhere near the hotel, unfortunately this spoilt the trip for us.

Lovely property.

Only issue is everything referred to Raisethorpe Hall including the directions. It's been rebranded as Sandsmoor so took more time to find than it should have done.

We have stayed at clematis cottage for the last 3 years always wishing we could stay longer on each occasion.

The cottage is a lovely location and it’s always presented to a high standard of cleanliness and equipment to an equally high standard, we just love being there. The owners are to be congratulated on their property & wish to take care of their customers when visiting clematis cottage.

What can I say this cottage is just perfect, that good we extended our stay.

First time away with our fury baby Archie golden retriever. I was a little dubious because the cottage allowed pets but oh my goodness it was immaculate. Everything we needed in the kitchen. Cottage has wonderful surroundings short walk to Sandsend. We have booked to go back next June but I'm sure we will be back before then.

This little cottage is beautiful.

Set in quiet surroundings with amazing walks and just a couple of minutes from the beach. Nearby pubs and shops. Super dog friendly. I honestly cannot rate this high enough.

Stunning cottage.

.. The perfect home from home. Beautifully decorated. 5* comfort. The listing is inaccurate for the directions so it was tricky to find. Look for SALTMORE at SANDSEND . The complex has changed its name and there's a biit of building work going off as you enter the grounds of the hotels and cottages but it doesn't affect the cottages at all. They are tucked away near the woods. Hotel grounds are stunning. Cottage has everything you need for a perfect stay. Location in Sandsend if beautiful. Ten minute walk to the sea down the hotel complex driveway. Cafes and pubs are superb in Sandsend. Perfect location. Definitely going back.

Comfortable and well equipped. Our two little dogs had a marvellous holiday! Walks and no traffic wonderful. Thanks

My only comment is that in the downstairs toilet the sink is in the wrong location it needs moving close to the radiator as you currently cannot stand directly infront of the toilet.

I do think the place is exceptional other than this small gripe.

Absolutely loved our stay!

The cottage was immaculate and beautifully decorated. The location was perfect for walks on the beach , a lovely meal in the hotel , walks to Sandsend and Whitby. Everything we needed for a perfect stay! Thank you!

Lovely holiday home, equipped with everything you need.

The welcome basket with teabags, coffee, milk, cake and crisps was a nice touch. They also provided: washing up liquid, tea towels, kitchen roll, hand soap, moisturiser, and toilet rolls. Tony and Paula sent us a welcome message to check we had settled in and everything was ok which was also a nice touch. Would definitely stay again.

Absolutely lovely cottage.

Very clean, comfortable and warm. Beautiful big rooms and beds were very comfortable with lovely bed linen. Well equipped kitchen with a thoughtful welcome pack. The whole cottage had a very calming ambience and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Was concerned with the reviews regarding the building works but that is just when you enter the site and cottages are out of the way so not disturbed by the noise. Thank you to the owners and look forward to staying again.

Would definitely go again. *please don't be put off by reading reviews about driving through building works, it is away from the cottage and will not affect your stay in any way*

Beautiful cottage.

Spotlessly clean and very well equipped and peaceful. The cottage was further away from the beach access and Sandsend than we thought. Shame having to drive through the construction site to reach the cottage but all workers were very polite in giving us access. Looks like the whole area will be wonderful when completed.

Have spoken to owners.

Cottage fabulous. However, being in the middle of a massive construction site was absolutely ridiculous. Sykes should have warned us and offered a refund prior to us travelling. Entrance and exit from the site was a nightmare. This was not within the owners remit. I would like an official reply from Sykes please. The cottages should be shut whilst the multi million pound development is undertaken. I look forward to Sykes reply.

Fabulous accommodation, cannot wait to go back

We had a brilliant time - weather hot for 6 out of 7 days, beautiful cottage - everything we needed and more at the cottage and owners were lovely!

Great location and very relaxing. Everything had been thought of to make your stay comfortable and the added touches of bed linen, towels, welcome pack, tea towels, to name a few things, were greatly appreciated. Owners were clearly very keen to know if there were any issues, and wanted everything to be perfect for our stay. We were very sad to leave, and would love to return.

Tumble dryer useless.

Plaster fell from ceiling. TVs in bedrooms kitchen did not work. Insufficient bins per number of cottages. Distance to beach understated. No access. To grounds and gardens which were in fact a building site with a number of checkpoints. Clearly there was noise from building works.

We were called by the owner 15 minutes before arrival after driving 5 hours to be told there was building works on site at the cottage!

So as we have stayed at this cottage before we were extremely disappointed to arrive to this!! The owner asked if Sykes had informed us of this building works they had not. If we had know we would of chosen elsewhere, we had paid a lot of money to stay on a building site as far as we are concerned, we wanted to have dinner at the hotel that was being renovated, also to use their spa etc again more disappointment. The cottage had stains on the bedroom carpet, and on the furniture not very nice and it smelt of dogs! I personally have recently become a widow and was looking forward to the break! But this was not what I would call a relaxing place to stay!! We are very interested to hear your feedback on our comments as this we feel is very unacceptable! I shall be putting a review online also pictures.

Lovely little property situated between Sandsend and Whitby - ideal for visiting North York moors or coast.

Comfortable, clean and in a quiet location.

A very clean and comfortable cottage.

Two lovely bedrooms, small kitchen/diner and good sitting room. If taking a dog there is a walk right outside although we couldn’t walk to the beach as there were cows in a field on the way. The only downside was having to drive through a building site to access the property but it wasn’t really a problem.

The cottage is a real home from home with everything you could possibly need and so clean. There’s even an outside tap to wash the pooches down. I would recommend this to anyone and will definitely be booking again

It is beautifully decorated, clean and in a lovely, peaceful spot. The cottage was extremely comfortable and had all the amenities and equipment that we needed (and more). We could have stayed for longer and will definitely be recommending to family and friends!

As mentioned by others, the tv in the lounge is tricky to navigate. We couldn’t work out the channels even though there was a guide left by previous guests. The beds were very comfortable, we slept really well! We would definitely book again.

Had a lovely stay at Clematis cottage despite the weather.

Was nice to return to a warm stunning cottage after walking on the beaches in the windy weather. Only thing I would suggest is to have a mop so we could have cleaned the hall tiles when our dog had walked in. Overall an excellent lovely comfortable cottage in lovely surroundings .

Great cottage in a lovely secluded location.

Well equipped and quality bedding and towels. A lovely welcome pack on arrival. We visited in November when the paths into Sandsend were quite muddy as you would expect for the time of year so would love to revisit in the summer.
