    “What a fabulous find!”

    Bellwether Shepherd's Hut was an absolute delight. Everything that could ever be needed was there. The owners have thought of everything. The location was spot on! Easy access to various tourist attractions, local shops, pubs, restaurants, takeaways. The A170 takes you directly to the seaside town of Scarborough (nicectrip out). Beautiful scenery, especially on site. The countryside just keeps on rolling, and it's lovely watching the hares frolicking in the field directly infront of the ...

    Bellwether Shepherd's Hut was an absolute delight. Everything that could ever be needed was there. The owners have thought of everything. The location was spot on! Easy access to various tourist attractions, local shops, pubs, restaurants, takeaways. The A170 takes you directly to the seaside town of Scarborough (nicectrip out). Beautiful scenery, especially on site. The countryside just keeps on rolling, and it's lovely watching the hares frolicking in the field directly infront of the Shepherd's Hut, so this is a great place to sit with a good book and a glass of sparkle, would be equally a great place to be on a chilly evening, as there is a chiminea (with wood provided) Theres also a covered seating area soley for your use along with a gas BBQ. As for THEE resident goats...full of character and are adorable, they also like the odd carrot/apple or two. Oh and if you fancy a little self indulgent TLC during your stay, Fiona (owner) offers various treatment...Book her for a massage! I cannot speak highly enough of this amazing place. This unique accommodation houses a stylish interior design and is well-equipped for you and your partner to spend some time within the countryside setting.

The well-equipped kitchen houses all the essentials to whip up a home-cooked meal that can be enjoyed at the dining table, or venture outside to dine alfresco with a glass of wine in hand, whilst soaking up the surroundings.

As the evening draws to a close, look forward to curling up on the well-presented double bed, whilst the woodburning stove fills the room with warmth during those chilly winter months.

If you can tear yourself away from this romantic base, a short drive will bring you to the market town of Helmsley where you will find a selection of pubs and eateries, as well as the Helmsley Castle and the Helmsley Arts Centre to keep you busy.

Brush up on the local history further, by visiting the ruins of the 11th-century Rievaulx Abbey or the Byland Abbey with its museum of artefacts.

For those feeling active, you will find miles of walking and cycling routes upon the National Park, with the popular Cleveland Way starting within Helmsley.

Alternatively, there is the National Centre for Birds of Prey, situated within the Duncombe Park estate, promising a splendid day out.

About the location

HELMSLEY

Kirkbymoorside 6 miles; Thirsk 14 miles; Pickering 13 miles; York 26 miles.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by. Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep - indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley - and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. York is less than an hour's drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes' drive.
