Perfect for our short break, had everything we needed and a very generous welcome pack!

Cosey cottage (not a problem for us, but if you are over 6 feet tall you'll need to watch your head!) and a great location to walk into Whitby from. Thanks for having us!

We loved staying at Fortunatus, it was a perfect base for our break in Whitby.

It was lovely and comfortable, and the offroad parking was definitely a plus. The owners were really helpful too.

The accommodation was to our liking.

Very spotlessly clean and the welcome pack was a nice surprise and it even had treats for teddy in it which he thought was great.The park and ride is very close (20 min walk),and you can even walk into Whitby but beware of the steep hill on the return. Would highly recommend to friends and family.

The cottage is a lovely place to stay, the welcome pack when you arrive is such a nice touch, including all you need to make a hot drink after a long journey.

The whole cottage was very clean, beautifully decorated throughout, made it’s feel very homely and has everything you need for your stay, the smallest bedroom hasn’t much storage but that can’t be helped due to size of room but the main bedroom has plenty to help with that. The area is quiet with a supermarket very close by, it’s about a 25-30 minute walk down into Whitby town centre or the beach, but it’s worth the walk because the beach is very clean and a pleasant place to spend a few hours, lots to do in and around Whitby. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, conveniently situated for the Lidl store and park and ride into Whitby to save on finding parking.

Rushed out on our last day and forgot to leave a comment in the cottage’s book, so please pass on our remarks to the owners and thank them for the welcome pack

Arrived to a pile of scrap/old boiler by the front door, & next to the filthy outdoor seating area - which is NOT a patio, it is the drive way.

Once we finally managed to push and squeeze through the front door, we discovered there is NO washer dryer, just a bog standard washer. Boiler not boxed in, tiles missing, etc. We were expecting what was advertised, but no. After heading upstairs, we found you need to be 3ft tall or a hobbit. The "shower" may as well not be there. Unless you lay in the bath you CANNOT use it. No shower curtain, or anywhere to hang the "shower" from. This place is abysmal. There is no proper ventilation, no fans, etc. No where to hang your clothes out. But there is a broken clothes hanger in the cupboard under the stairs. Please, take our advice, stay somewhere else. The place is NOT as advertised!! Also to make your holiday experience even more diabolical & nightmarish, the net fixing place next door will wake you up early every single day. Chains rattling, metal shutter rising, dog barking. If its really hot, remember you can't open the windows as he's burning rubbish which produces a disgusting stench which sticks to everything. There is no "garden", just a drive. Honestly, this place is certainly not worth the money. Half of it is filthy. All in all, we feel completely ripped off & lied to.

Such a lovely property and in a great location.

Very comfy beds, fantastic off road parking spot and the welcome hamper was a lovely surprise on arrival. We'll definitely be booking again.

The cottage was warm and welcoming, it was decorated for Christmas and the owners had left us some welcome gifts (much appreciated).

Fortunatus is well presented, well kept, comfortable, owners had left us a lovely welcome pack that we were not expecting, parking for our car and close to all amenities. Whitby is a few minutes drive, we went to Whitby Abbey, Bangers & Cash, to Goathland where Heartbeat was filmed, drove over the moors.....this property is perfect for being central to everything whilst being tucked away where it's quiet. The owners take good care of the property and we will book again.

Wonderful little cottage, could Not fault the property and generous welcome pack event the dog was included.

Our first three days were great it was spoiled on the last night by noisy guests next door we couldn’t sleep. It sounded like they were playing football indoors. This was just unfortunate and not the fault of the owner the walls must be thin.

Whitby is a welcoming place and this property is comfortable and snug.

The property is warm and clean.

Could do with a bit of brightening up in the lounge/kitchen. Very dark. Maintenance wise a few things need attention. There is a broken coffee machine, shredded areas on the lounge carpet and the bannister in the stairs is coming away from the wall. Location is great and private parking is a bonus.

We had a very comfortable few days stay at Fortunatus.

The beds were very comfortable and we had everything we could possibly need or want, including the best stocked kitchen we have ever come across. The welcome pack was very thoughtfully put together, even including milk as well as a nice bottle of red wine. I did wonder if it would be a bit too far from Whitby centre but it wasn’t at all. After long walks on the cliff tops we used the excellent bus service to take us back. For anyone younger I’m sure that wouldn’t be necessary, it is only a 20 minute walk from the centre. We would definitely us this cottage again and would recommend it. It is very warm VC and cosy. Many thanks to the owners.

Just returned from an amazing long weekend stay.

The cottage was very comfortable, clean and has everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. There was an amazing welcome pack and the owner was extremely helpful. A short 20 min walk to the beach or into the town centre and a supermarket 2 mins down the round. Perfect for what we needed.

Great welcome pack, also washing up liquid, handwash, kitchen roll etc were provided.

We did find the lounge to be a little dark as there was very little natural light and the small garden could have done with a bit of tlc. However, this cottage is located in an excellent location, 15 mins to the Whitby harbour & 15 mins to Upgang beach (dog friendly), where you’ll find a lovely pub The White House. Overall we had a lovely stay.

Couldn’t have wished for anything more, caring, attentive owners, the care package was simply wonderful ❤️ Lovely, quiet cottage, close enough to walk to everything, but far away from the noise and the hustle and bustle.

Only problem was the cube dining stools, a couple of folding chairs would fit behind the couch and would be perfect

Cottage was as described. Lovely suprise we had wine chocolate bars, milk left for us on our arrival.

Very cute cottage, well equipped and was a very pleasant stay.

The 3rd bedroom is extremely tiny in every way, so not really suitable for an adult . Very clean and comfortable

Found the house a tight fit for 3 adults 2teenagers 2dogs and 2 cars.

Had to park one car over a busy road out of sight.

Lovely little cottage, well equiped, clean, dog friendly and we were pleasently suprised with the lovely welcome pack.

It made a great base for our visit to Whitby. On the edge of the town with a large Liddles and garsge close by. Parking disks were provided if we needed to drive into town. Can highly recommend it

Cottage was very clean, owner left goodies and treats on arrival,even treats for the dog, owner text to make sure everything was ok and on hand if we had any problems,the care shown was lovely would throughly recommend this cottage

Cottage was lovely and very clean but the only thing was the beds were very uncomfortable didn’t get a decent night sleep it was the only thing that spoilt the cottage

Lovely cottage just far enough away from the busy streets in Whitby.

Received a txt from the owner to say the cottage was ready and we could go in. Welcome pack which was a nice surprise. The cottage has its own parking which is a must in Whitby. Had a most enjoyable stay with our grandchildren.

We had a fabulous time, we were pleasantly surprised at all the food items that were left for us , we would definitely stay there again if we are in the area .

The cottage was absolutely perfect.

Everything we needed was provided, and the range of facilities was great. There was a thoughtful welcome gift of milk, juice, biscuits, wine and sweets - above and beyond what you normally get, and the owner texted us to check everything was OK. The only very minor issue - and not the fault of the owner at all - is that mobile reception is poor - but provision of WiFi in the cottage meant that this was mitigated to some extent. Overall, brilliant!

A comfy well equipped cottage.

It was in a quiet location with a twenty minute walk into Whitby. The cleanliness of the cottage was excellent with surprise packs of things to eat from the host. It was great to have a down stairs loo too. A lovely place I would certainly go back to. The best cottage yet booked with Sykes.

The Cottage was stunning, Extremely clean, There was a lovely welcome gift for us to enjoy, The cottage was literally 5 mins from lidl, and the walk into town took 20 mins (although we got a taxi back uphill) There really isn't anything negative I could say about this lovely little gem, I'd definately stay ere again.

Beautiful cottage, with everything you could need and as we stopped over Christmas there were extra touches of chocs wine and even a Christmas stocking for our little dog.

Everything you could possibly need was there . Owners were on hand if you needed to ask anything and very amenable Car space for 2 cars which was a bonus , supermarket and spar two minutes away Highly recommended

This holiday was the first holiday we have had in 17 years and I was blown away.

This property exceeded my expectations. I was lovely and welcoming, had a fully stocked kitchen and a slow cooker, the welcome tray full of treats,tea and coffee was a fantastic welcome after the drive. I travelled with my 2 Autistic brothers, my disabled mother and my husband, everything we needed was right there. Everything was clean and all the really small details were taken care of. I loved the holiday. I have been planning a crochet/knitting retreat for me and some of my craft friends and this property has definitely been earmarked for this.

This cottage was not in a good location - in an uninteresting residential area quite a long way from the centre of Whitby, easily a 20 minute walk.

The cottage is advertised as sleeping 5 people which it does, although the single bedroom is only really suitable for a child, due to the very low, sloping ceiling. The dining table is hardly big enough to seat 3 people and certainly not the 5 people that the cottage is supposed to accommodate. Also the shower over the bath is useless as a shower: it's impossible to stand up to have a shower due to the location of the shower head and the absence of a shower curtain. Although the cottage was spotlessly clean and well-equipped I thought that it was poor value for money due to the above.

The welcome pack in this cottage was fantastic, the owner texted us to check we had got their safely and if we needed anything.

We were very impressed with the owners attention to detail.

I suffered from an asthma attack overnight while trying to make do with the cupboard I was sleeping in, or was it the 3rd bedroom?

I had to open the skylight for some air, and I could hear busy traffic all night, since rather than 15 mins to the harbour it was 30 mins, and near a busy road. There is no back door to the property, and the small patio, turned out to be the drive where the car was parked. Getting one small car in was a bit of a manoeuvre and required the use of the neighbour's drive to negotiate. On the day before we left, while checking under the bed to make sure nothing was left, I found a magazine from June (this was November).Also the double bedroom under the bed there was sand, which was there on arrival. There is not a shower over the bath. It was around a foot above the taps. The small frosted windows added gloom in the dark days of November. Please get your details about this cottage updated, Sykes.

Very close to a supermarket and within walking distance to a local pub. Great welcome pack on arrival. Thoughtful touches throughout the cottage.

The only thing missing was the coffee macine that was mentioned in the facilities in the cottage , but wasnt there but honestly not a problem, it didnt detract from the enjoyment of our stay.

Advertised as over bath shower, but due to the sloping ceilings the shower was a foot above the taps, I would rather do away with the downstairs toilet and get a proper shower than use that shower the way it was.

Fence gaps were large enough for my staffy to just step through. Oven was basically just a grill, front left hob was uneven resulting in the frying pan falling off while trying to crack an egg. Other than those faults the cottage was clean, well decorated and set out lovely, it’s open plan living downstairs really suited our family, WiFi was good, plenty of storage and in a good area, not too far away from town.

The walk down into centre of Whitby took us longer than specified time stated, was more like 25/30mins, not 15mins

The cottage was comfortable, clean, well equipped and in a good location down a quiet lane only a short walk to Whitby harbour and sea front.

Supermarket close by and a range of good walks from the doorstep. There was a lovely welcome tray of wine, biscuits, tea and coffee with dog treats and milk in the fridge. One thing to note is the shower over the bath is from the taps and is positioned low on the wall so you cannot stand in the bath and shower however there was plenty of hot water and lovely big bath towels so if you can live with this minor inconvenience then do not let this deter you from choosing what is otherwise a delightful place to stay. As always the Yorkshire people were so friendly. Whitby and the surrounding area is beautiful with lots of great eating places. The cafe up at the Abbey, the pub at Ugthoype and the Rusty Shears in Whitby were superb. Didn’t use the local pub but enjoyed a tasty take away from the local Chinese.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Whitby, all was as expected at the cottage as advertised.

The owner was very friendly & willing to help should there have been any problems. A generous welcome pack was a lovely touch. Many thanks for a comfortable stay, would go again.

.. snow...blizzards... hail and even sunshine! It had all home comforts and everything we needed.

Found the cottage warm and welcoming , especially the little touches like the doggie treats .

Can't fault the cottage for cleanliness , comfort and facilities. At the end of a days walking it was great to relax in the bath and wrap up in giant towels !! Every little detail was taken care of. Would recommend.

This is beautiful property, close to local supermarket and short drive into Whitby or Robin Hoods Bay.

The welcome tray was an unexpected treat and a lovely touch. Lots of dog friendly pubs in Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay which are very cosy after a bracing walk around the Abbey or playing on the beach. I would highly recommend this property and intend to visit again.
