La Rochelle

We had a great stay at La Rochelle.

The bungalow was very clean and well equipped. An Air Fryer would have made a difference when cooking breakfast.!!

Great garden but only accessed by walking around the property, no doors leading to garden.

Limited tv programmes due to not having sky TV. Good kitchen facilities and nice shower although quite tight. Double glazed windows have blown in places and do not look attractive. We were greeted with a note telling us not to allow dogs on furniture or in bedrooms and when to put the bins out, not very welcoming. Property is in a good location and with a few tweaks, could be a great place to stay. All holiday let's should have sky TV these days, this is only the second property we have stayed at that doesn't have it and we holiday in dog friendly cottages 4 or 5 times per year. We would book again if the issues were addressed.

The property was in a good location and was very spacious.

However, on arrival the property was freezing cold as no heating was on. The heating also didn’t seem to be set properly, which meant I had to manually put heating on and off each day. There was a lovely welcome pack included as well as dog biscuits, bowls and a pet towel. However, the visitor’s information folder wasn’t very guest or pet friendly as it was just full of rules! The information that was included was out of date. It would have been very useful to have correct information about recycling in the local area as the bins were completely different than our area. Overall the property was good and I would recommend it for the great location and comfort.

I found this property just perfect for what we needed situated in a nice quiet close , just the right size , comfy beds , nice clean kitchen .

Just a couple of minutes walk from Lidl , handy petrol station where petrol is cheap . Just the right distance to walk into Whitby town .

A comfortable stay in a spacious and well equipped bungalow.

Only downside was no access from property to the garden and quite a way from town otherwise I would recommend.

Nice spacious detached bungalow on a quiet cul de sac along with a couple other bungalows, has a drive for one car which is useful but plenty of parking around if there was more than one vehicle.

Property is spacious and the kitchen and bathroom are nice and modern, has a washing machine and dish washer which is useful. In the bathroom there is a bath as well as a shower so you can have the luxury of choosing one or the other. Settee is comfy, beds comfy but only thing I would say Is that they seemed like small doubles as I didn’t feel like I had as much room. Large garden with table and chairs if you want to sit out, only issue is there is no back door so you have to go outside through the gate to get to it. Not sure if there is a limit on hot water you can use a day but I did notice at times that the hot water seems to cut out and the hot tap would start running cooler water for some reason. The hot water taps in the property reach scalding temperatures so you have to be careful when using them. They have some board games in the kitchen cupboard and also some books which is nice if anyone wants a quiet night in. There is a petrol station and Lidl round the corner from the property and if anyone wants a recommendation for a nice pub there is the White House Inn which does nice homemade food, about 10 minutes walk away. Overall I would recommend this cottage and would stay again in the future.

No back door for the property so not very good for accessing the dog secure garden.

No toilet brush in the property. Other than that, excellent place. A bit difficult to locate with sat-nav as it’s actually on a cul de sac which is easily missed.

La Rochelle is a superb, quiet location making it the ideal base to explore the region.

Sadly the interior of the house just let's it down. The plus point though is the beds were very comfortable. However that's where it ends. On entering the house we were met by a foul, damp smell which despite all the air fresheners throughout the house did not mask it. After searching high and low the smell was located - wet towels left in the washing machine, plus the machine itself needs a thorough clean. Cutlery/utensil drawers need a clean as well as items being put away still dirty! A bottle, one third full of watered, yes watered down washing up liquid was left for our use. This costs less than 70p from Aldi! Grill pan - take it a bit out and it's clean....take the thing out and it's covered in fat splatters!! Please purchase a new frying pan - we did £8 from Argos! The kitchen is well equipped, just some items need replacing due to wear and tear. I actually began to clean the kitchen and remembered 'I'm on holiday' and do not expect to have to clean a 'newly cleaned' house..... The living room couch which when new would have been fabulously comfortable is now past it's best and yes, I did have to clean the crumbs and rubbish from it before we could sit on it. Not just dusty but dirty kickboards and radiators...check the 'cot bag' on top of wardrobe, if you don't believe me. I even cleaned the dirty marks off your bathroom walls! Rubbish left under bed cabinets which we actually left as by now, it's becoming a laugh... Checking the website, it states that electricity and heating are included in price - the heating is one electric fire in living room and the central heating is disabled, so can't be used. Can I recommend getting a cheap drying screen as as you well know, the weather doesn't always allow you to hang out washing. Plus some clothes pegs - to me these are just basic pieces of everyday equipment. Lastly it's the windows which are most in need of replacement - frames covered in black mould and the seals between the double glazing 'blown'. I actually had a read of previous comments on Sykes page from 3 years ago where you said this was being addressed but you were having difficulty in finding someone to do the work in such a tight timeframe. Sadly it's still an issue. Did notice new window and door in the roof above the garage though. The 'Welcome' book says 'treat La Rochelle like your own home......' Well we certainly left in a much cleaner state than we found it I do expect your response to my review to say there were phone numbers you could have called and your issues could have been addressed...... This house sincerely has the potential to be fabulous but really needs some serious attention

The property was a good base, quiet, warm with effective CH beds, were comfortable, ok kitchen & bathroom.

Nice garden. Freezer in garage. The shower pump made an awful noise in the airing cupboard when shower was in use. The property requires a deep clean & refresh. Windows were filthy, some seals gone, internal repaint required. Some dirty areas in bungalow on window boards, sockets etc..

La Rochelle was a welcome break.

The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The seating in the lounge was uncomfortable due to its age and needs replacing. The kitchen mostly was good just needs a new frying pan and some tongs. The bathroom was good and the separate bath and shower work well. The garden was tidy with garden furniture although one of the chairs looked broken and had been left by the fence. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful spacious bungalow with everything you need, many thoughtful extras, we visited many coastline villages and the walk to Whitby isn’t to bad, we will definitely return.

Kitchen is well equipped, nice back garden. Great location for the Lidl supermarket. It's about a mile walk down to Whitby train station. Investment in new windows is needed as there was a lot of mould around them. This doesn't do the property justice. We would recommend the property to others as it was comfortable overall.

We were worried about past reviews of there being no heating, however, it was warm when we arrived and throughout our stay.

We had no issues with heating. The location was fantastic for us. We were able to walk everywhere. The bungalow was clean tidy and had most utensils. We did buy a cafeteria as we had brought with us ground coffee. There was a coffee machine but the local Lidl didn't have the correct pods for us to use the machine. Having a Lidl at the end of theb road was very useful. I think prior notice of the type of pods would be useful, however, there was plenty of sachet coffee tea hot chooclate and biscuits left out for us. Our dog even got a pack of treats which was thoughtful. We ve never been to Whitby before and we loved it. Lovely pubs nearby and the information in the folder was very useful. This is a lovely little bungalow.

The facilities are reasonable and it was very clean. I would recommend taking some dish washing supplies. We arrived to find no washing up liquid, sponges, clothes or dishwasher tablets to wash any dirty dishes. Luckily there is a lldl very near by so it didn't cause much of a problem just a bit disappointed that nothing was provided. If you are taking a dog then please be aware that there is no access to the rear of the bungalow. There is only one entrance to the property, so if you need the garden you need to go around the side of the bungalow and through a side gate. So if you have a dog that is a bit flighty then its put them on a lead and walk them round. This was ok and we were aware at the time of booking the property but the week we were there the weather was awful and it became a bit of challange letting the dog have a last relief before bedtime. I would say that the bungalow iis more than 20 mins to Whitby Town Centre and its about 40 mins to Sandsend, longer if you are walking along the beach. Both Towns are lovely to visit. Whitby offers an excellent bus service so nowhere is really very far if you don't mind the bus. There is a pub about 15 mins away, Dog friendly and does some really good food so if you don't want the trek to town then we recommend this place. On a big plus side, the owners are very accommodating if you have any problems. I would recommend that they update their information folder especially recycling information, we had to go on the council website to find out when and what also, some cleaning equipment would be nice. We couldn't find anything other than a hand brush to sweep around the property following our stay.

The property could do with a real good deep clean.

There was all rubbish , sweet wrappers, under the duvet of one of the single beds. We stripped the sheets as requested so this is how we found the rubbish. The kitchen floor and work tops still had bits of food and crumbs on them when we arrived. The mat in the kitchen was covered in grass and crumbs. We were asked to leave the place as we found it, fortunately we didn’t do this. We hoovered all through the property and cleaned the kitchen surfaces. Very disappointed with the state of the property but we really pleased with the comfort of the beds and sofa. The outdoor space was great too. It would also have been nice to have been pre warned that the grass would be cut early on Friday morning.

We had a problem with the electrics,a ring to the owner and they got an electrician out within a few hours and the problem was fixed, brilliant.

It is a very well equipped bungalow in a very pleasant centrally located bungalow,excellent for my brother who has mobility issues. The garden was secure for the dog and lovely to sit in,the garden furniture does need updating as 3 of the chairs were not fit for purpose,but we did write that in the problem book.Overall excellent.

Great location close but far enough from Whitby if you like a bit of peace and quite, parking was brilliant nice to be off road.

The property was really spacious and light, nice sized kitchen dinner, lounge, bathroom, and bedrooms we used, heating and hot water system really good. The enclosed back garden was ideal for our dog and a real suntrap with a mixture of lawn and patio area.This has to be one of the best places we have stayed at and we've stayed in a few over the years.

Nice quiet spot and handy for provisions with Lidl and spar, nice garden area but every time we sat in it plenty of neighbour's decided to to DIY outdoors.

Only negatives were new windows needed and woodlice in kitchen.

We’ve returned from a great stay!

The property is based within a quiet cul-de-sac and benefits from a private driveway, along with a garage for storage of bikes etc, which then opens up to a large patio with seating and an ample garden for the kids. We’ve stayed in properties previously and not had the luxury of a garden which was very welcomed with the warm weather after a busy day out. The only downfall of the property is the windows, they are in desperate need of replacing the windows/frames. Blackout blinds/curtains may also be something to consider, especially with having small children and the early mornings within the summer. However we enjoyed our stay thoroughly and would not hesitate to return next year. Thanks

Ideal location for visiting Whitby.

The parking is great for two cars. Cottage was clean and well equipped with everything that you would need. The only thing letting it down was it needed a little TLC.

As previously commented show tray urgently needs a none slip mat as the shower becomes slippery when whilst using shampoo/soap

The bungalow well equipped and clean ,ideal base for exploring the area ,only downside is the settee, sooo uncomfortable has many guests have made comments.

So would be great if the owners listen to their guests and upgrade it and make the holiday experience a more pleasant one .

The appearance of the property from looking at the photos looks immaculate (but when we’re the photos taken?

). The size of the rooms in the property were good, but once inside we noticed straight away that some of the rooms need some TLC. The windows definitely let the property down, they were filthy both on the outside and on the inside. Some of the windows you couldn’t see out of because they were “blown” with condensation and need replacing. Access to the rear garden was a total inconvenience, especially with a dog. The lounge suite is dated and very uncomfortable. There were also cobwebs on the light fittings. In the kitchen there were 2 frying pans that were not fit for purpose. Most disappointed to find a very basic compliment tray which is likened to a cheap hotel. The bedrooms that were used were adequate but the two double bedrooms would benefit from having a chair to sit on. The shower cubicle was rather small and lacked a handrail and a shower mat. Also there was no toilet brush to clean the toilet. There was a bad smell in the property that seemed to be coming from the bathroom, hence the reason why a lot of air fresheners were around the property.

We had a lovely stay over Easter.

The bungalow is very well equipped, clean, warm and comfortable. Would be nice if the beds were king sized as that's what we're used to, but otherwise comfortable. It was a lovely touch to find three Easter eggs had been left for the children and also dog bowls a dog towel for the use of and even a box of dog biscuits. These were all very much appreciated. Also the usual milk, sugar, tea, coffee and biscuits. It has room for two big cars on the drive, being able to park on site in Whitby is a big bonus. It's a bit of a walk into town from there, not a problem for us though we walked down to the beach and along to the town even our 4yr old granddaughter managed the walk there and back after a full day. We would all definitely recommend La Rochelle.

A spotlessly clean and comfortable cottage with plenty of space.

The property was clean, comfortable and spacious.

It is in a very good location for local amenities and also for walks along the cliff tops.The property would benefit from a larger shower cubicle. There is a nice secure back garden for dogs and children but there is no gate on the driveway by the main entrance of the bungalow to make that secure too. We really enjoyed our stay at this bungalow and hope to be back again soon.

We had a lovely time at La Rochelle very clean very comfortable everything you needed was there home from home had pleasure of talking to Tracy the owner such a lovely lady had lovely time whilst we were there had to leave earlier than intended due to family emergency will definitely visit again very pleasant quiet area.

The property is located in a nice quiet street.

Everything was clean. The equipment of the kitchen was OK. The overall description was very accurate. We would definitely book again!

Well equipped bungalow within a 20 minute walking distance of the Town centre and 10 minutes to the beach.

Clean and tidy upon arrival and a comfortable stay. Lack of rear door to nice garden not ideal but not a deal breaker. Would stay again.

We had a lovely 2 week stay.

La Rochelle is a very welcoming and comfortable bungalow and had everything we needed for our holiday. There is a lovely enclosed garden (which was good for our dog) with a seating area that we made good use of as we were lucky to have 2 weeks of sunshine. Tracey has worked very hard to ensure that her bungalow is welcoming and like home from home. Thank you! We visited lots of different places in and around Whitby. We were disappointed that the beach at Whitby was closed to dogs (apart from a small area that was not very welcoming as it was full of seaweed and pebbles) but that did not stop us enjoying our stay (Runswick Bay and Robin Hood Bay are dog friendly) We will definitely return to La Rochelle in the future.

La Rochelle was really well equipped and very clean.

The kitchen was well equipped including tea/coffee, cooking foil, dishwasher tablets etc - not all holiday cottages provide these. The lounge and bedroom were very comfortable and the bathroom lovely and clean. The rear garden was well cared for and spacious, the only downside was no access from the back of the property. The bungalow is in a residential area but tucked away with two other bungalows so quite quiet.

Property was in a really good location 2mins walk to lidl and petrol station with a spar .

Was in a quite place just of the main road with 2 other bungalows. Overall are stay was good the bungalow could do with a few minor things sorting which i wrote in there maintenance book . Such a shame there isn't a door which leads into the enclosed garden as i feel its wasted . Only access is walking around otherside of bungalow to enter through a gate or go through the garage . Strangest setup ive ever seen but nevermind. Beds was comfy . Tv in every room which is a bonus . Everything you could think of in the kitchen. Only thing missing was a clothes airer defo a must with small children and weather is rubbish to do washing . Overall a nice bungalow

We couldn't cook meals due to the roasting tins being rusty .

The shower fan was full of dust. No loo brush in the bathroom . No communication between yourselves and the owner . This bungalow is not suitable for young children and have to be supervised at all times due to the fact there is no gate and they can get on the road .

The house was just what we needed - tidy and comfy.

There was some confusion over the bins - which was which and when emptied but the owner was most helpful in taking surplus rubbish away. A pleasant walk into Whitby and handy for Lidl!

It’s in a great area for visiting lots of placer.

However I didn’t like having to go out every time the dog needed to go out. Not really dog friendly. But it was spotless clean. Needs a few things to complete. Clothes Maiden Clothes line. Bread bin. Mirror near a plug for drying your hair.More plug sockets in bedroom. just being picky really. Nice to be in a cul.de.sack private Nice quiet area with Lidl very close by so really handy. Instructions on finding the property were very confusing had to ask member of public.

Considering the let had only been going a year the sofa was very flat and low.

Lovely bungalow, well situated for town and beach as long as you’re relatively fit as the walk back can be a little challenging, however there’s parking near the beach then would be a flat walk into Whitby along a promenade and a little on the beach, The bungalow is very well equipped even to the point of supplying cleaning products, lovely bedrooms and clean beds.

Lovely garden with some outside seating which would be lovely in summer, we were there in October therefore weren’t able to make use of this, The only drawback is that the bungalow is in a residential area therefore doesn’t have quite a holiday feel, however this may be a positive point, depending whether you like to drive from your base or walk,

A little maintenance needed outside but inside modern and comfortable,spotlessly clean an well equipped.

well positioned for all amenities all within walking distance or short car journey.warning re very hot water.access to garden could be better.all in all lovelly bungalow and if visiting Whitby again would not hesitate to rebook had a wonderful time.

The bungalow was lovely. Clean comfortable and cosy. Nice place to come back to after a hard day walking. We would definitely go back.

We have just returned from La Rochelle & it’s fair to say that we have had a lovely time - The bungalow was clean & comfortable (although we did have to empty out a few bedside drawers from dust & hair & there were a few cobwebs hanging from the ceilings, but that’s me really nit picking) .

.the property included everything that you would need & really was like home from home. The one major gripe was the shower in the bathroom - if you want to get your legs wet aswel as your head I suggest you take a bath - this was thee worst shower known to man - you could take more of a shower stood outside in the rain than you could actually stood underneath that shower! There is also no BBQ outside in the garden which is a shame considering Whitby gets some gorgeous weather - fortunately we took our own to enjoy but it would of been handy for there to of been a built in one ready to go - just my opinion. There is a beautiful Chinese take away, again around a 15 min walk away (menu in the property), the establishment doesn’t deliver but if you like Chinese food it is most definitely worth a visit. Lidyl supermarket & Spar + Petrol Station are a swift 2 minute walk away from the property which was wonderful ...Whitby was a lovely 25 min walk away, Pannett Park (which my little boy thoroughly enjoyed) a good 20 min walk away also. There is a lovely local pub - The White House, which is situated down near the golf course - this was again only around a 15 min walk away & is of course dog friendly (if your planning on taking your furry 4 legged friend/s as we did) Lots to see & do - Scarborough & Robin Hoods Bay not far away at all in the car ..lots of beaches to stroll along & lots of walks to enjoy also. Overall we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay @ La Rochelle & we will most certainly return to Whitby.

Good location for town centre, we didn't take our car into centre.

We used local taxis, friendly, reliable and good value. 5 minutes walk to Lidl supermarket, clean and comfortable accommodation, would highly recommend

It has everything you need! The only downside was the back access to the lovely garden, especially as we took our dog. We had a lovely stay and would highly recommend to others.
