“Housekeeping poor.”
Greasy messy smelly frying pan left in draw, plus other dirty pots & pans left, upon our arrival. Cooker top, so easy to wipe clean... the oven not clean, filled the place with terrible choking smoke when tried to use the grill. Wouldn't touch other equipment. General lack of decent equipment. Fridge/freezer totally inadequate for longer than 2 day stays, very small.
In general no instructions, and general maintenance of equipment very poor. Taps drip, windows hard or impossible to open. No ...

It is the very first we've stayed in a Sykes run property and the last. Not value for money for sure. Very disappointing. Sad really, the property has such a lot going for it, lovely peaceful surroundings.

I would normally thank you for your feedback, not in this case as it is not honest.
Our housekeeping is good and the place is clean, our other reviews testify to that.
There was an issue with the frying pan, an oversight by our cleaning team, I apologise for that. as I did when you reported it. However your have failed to mention the excellent response you received, as I had one of the cleaners back on site within an hour of your arrival when you found the pan in the drawer.
She cleaned to pan for you and checked all the others while there, there were no issues with them at all so I am not sure why you would say there was.
The hob was clean, I checked the cottage before your arrival.
The oven and grill were clean. Had there been the smoke you claimed there was our fire alarm would have gone off. It is very sensitive and even a piece of burnt toast will activate it, then I get a call as it is a monitored alarm with fire service response.
I checked the oven and grill after your review before our next guests arrived, there was nothing wrong with them and you did not clean them.
All the other appliances were clean, I had our cleaner check when she cam she back.
Your statement about poor maintenance is nonsense, everything is in good condition and works perfectly.
If there is a lack of equipment, perhaps you could have said what as I have no idea what it could be. We have enough cooking utensils, pots, pans etc. There is also an air fryer, slow cooker, toaster. All other guests seem to be happy with what we provide.
Your comment about the windows and doors is completely untrue, they were all newly installed 4 years ago. I have checked them all since you posted this review, they are all in good working order, perhaps you are unfamiliar with how a window and door opens.
In my email before you arrived and during a conversation upon your arrival you were asked to let me know if there were any issues or anything I could do to help, I did not hear from you again after the frying pan issue, given how you spoke on the phone I am sure you would have been in touch if any of your other comments were true.
People who write untruthful reviews damage small businesses, it is an unpleasant thing to do when not founded in reality.
If you had other concerns and issues I would have dealt with them speedily, as I always do, other reviews will testify to the promptness or response's.
It seems you have been very upset y the frying pan and decided we deserved a good kicking. Mistake do happen, none of us are perfect, which is what I said to you when our cleaners came to change your bedding and towels one week in to your stay, when they found the pool of dog sick you had not cleaned up and claimed not to have known about.
