“We recently stayed at Lake View Lodge for four nights.”

I'll start with the positives because there are quite a few. The location is absolutely stunning. Nestled amongst the woodland with beautiful lake views, it's peaceful, relaxing and in a great location for exploring the surrounding area. The lodge has fantastic kerb appeal and looks exactly as pictured from the outside. The welcome pack was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated after our journey. The kitchen is well-equipped, the bed was comfortable, and the site itself is quiet and well maintained. Unfortunately, that's where the "luxury lodge" experience ends. The interior simply doesn't live up to being advertised as a luxury lodge. It feels as though housekeeping and routine maintenance have been neglected for some time. Cleanliness was the biggest disappointment. It appeared the lodge had only received a quick clean before our arrival. The entrance rug was absolutely filthy, with obvious staining, and there were dirty marks on the walls and other areas throughout the lodge. The oven was also so dirty that we didn't feel comfortable using it, so we ended up going out for a meal instead. When you're paying for luxury accommodation, you shouldn't have to spend the first part of your holiday cleaning before you can relax. The smell was another major issue. There was a strong musty odour coming from the kitchen cupboards, but the bathroom was much worse. We had to keep the bathroom door closed throughout our stay because the damp smell was so unpleasant. We thoroughly cleaned the bathroom ourselves, which helped temporarily, but every time we returned after being out for a few hours, the smell came back. The hot tub was disappointing too. The wood burner was completely full of ash and clearly hadn't been cleaned after previous guests. There were only a handful of logs provided, nowhere near enough to heat the tub, so we had to drive to a local garage to buy more wood before we could even use it. There are also several maintenance issues that previous reviews have already highlighted but still haven't been addressed. The toilet roll holder is still loose and poorly fixed to the wall, the walls are marked and in need of repainting, the bases of the breakfast bar stools are showing signs of rust and corrosion, and the shower floor tiles are beginning to lift. None of these issues are major on their own, but together they create the impression that the property isn't being properly cared for. It's genuinely disappointing because this lodge has enormous potential. With a thorough deep clean, attention to detail and some basic maintenance, it could easily justify being described as a luxury lodge. We still enjoyed our holiday thanks to the beautiful surroundings, peaceful atmosphere and excellent location, but the standard of cleanliness and upkeep simply don't reflect the price paid or the luxury description. I hope the owners take these comments constructively, as this could easily become a five-star lodge with the care and attention it deserves.
