Voebroch

This is the 3rd year running we have stayed in this cottage.

We love the location, the view, the quiet village and the 3 downstairs bedrooms with 3 bathroom for our elderly parents to stay in. However this year the cleanliness was not to the usual standard we were expecting. The house was full of flies and we spent all week trying to rid them everyday. The kitchen walls, shelves and pot/pans all had a layer of grease. The baking trays were dirty and the floor in the main area was dirty and hadn’t been hoovered. There was debris under the cooker which hadn’t been hoovered/swept. There was tiny white ball in the groove on top of the dining table I remember seeing this last year!!! The kick boards were not attached under the kitchen units. My husband had to reattach these to stop our elderly parents from falling over it. The end bedroom bed appeared to not have been changed from the previous guests and looked like it had been turned round and reused. The upstairs bathroom shower has black mould on the grout and the shower overflows onto the floor each time used. On our 1st night one of the dining chairs broke which was being sat on by my 92yr old father in law. Luckily he was wasn’t injured from the fall just really shook up. We got in contact with Sykes at this point to report the chairs and flies. We are unsure about returning next year, which is a shame as the cottage really caters to our needs.

Voebroch was the perfect setting for a family break.

There was everything we needed in the house from enough pots and pans, crockery, glassware and laundry facilities. The living area is perfect for family get together and four bathrooms meant that we didn’t struggle to clean up after beach walks. The setting was the absolute icing on the cake. The view from the garden is perfect and the sunsets made it worth staying home for.

A lovely cottage with truly breathtaking views, and plenty of space ideal for a large family.

With a bit more attention to detail, this could easily be a five-star property. Unfortunately, there were several issues on arrival that let the property down, which was particularly disappointing given the price paid. Cleanliness, in particular, was below expectations. The floor—especially under the dining table—was unclean, with visible crumbs and hair. The upstairs bath had clearly not been cleaned, and the bedroom bin had not been emptied. The downstairs bathroom also requires attention, with a stained toilet seat and a marked wall above the toilet. Additionally, false nails were found under the duvet. We also found a false hairpiece under the couch, along with a significant number of dead flies throughout the property, including on the windowsills. Outside, the grass was extremely overgrown and had clearly not been maintained. We had to purchase a lawn mower ourselves in order to cut it. After doing so, we discovered dog waste that had been left behind by previous guests. The vanity unit above the sink in the downstairs bathroom was also unclean, with visible marks and rings left from bottles. There was a significant issue with flies likely due to the nearby farm which made the kitchen area particularly affected. We ended up purchasing several fly traps ourselves to manage the problem. Additionally, the kitchen could be better equipped, as there were plenty of large plates but no side plates available. The games room is a great addition and offers plenty of entertainment; however, it would be much more convenient if there was direct access from inside the house. It also would benefit from a thorough clean. Once we had cleaned the property ourselves and sorted the garden, our stay became much more enjoyable, but this is something that should not have been necessary, especially at this price point. Overall, a beautiful property with great potential, but improvements in cleanliness and maintenance are needed to match expectations.

Really good location with amazing views, we especially loved watching the sunsets from the bottom of the garden.

Good house size and set up for a large group of people with en suites in majority of bedrooms. Nice modern furniture and especially loved the non slip kitchen floor for the dogs! Remote location so a car is needed to visit the local areas including pubs and shops. Didn’t really use the games room at all because was outside in the garage. If there was an internal door would have used it a lot more. A few minor niggles which would have made us give 5 stars - no dishwasher salt or rinse aid (we bought our own and filled it up), error on washing machine so didn’t use, fire alarms randomly go off because of dust in them, heating system not easy to figure out, some mattresses not the greatest. The sinks/drainage are very slow, kitchen bin could do with an upgrade to be larger with a foot pedal.

Great 4 nights at Voebroch.

Beautiful quiet location in a little hamlet but within easy reach of all the key sights along the coast. House has been renovated to a very high standard, decor stylish and modern and plenty of bathrooms. Kitchen/diner is an excellent space. Garden backs onto the coastal path with access through a gate. Stunning coastal views. Just a couple of points for maintenance - there is a slight musty smell when entering the hallway and in two of the downstairs bedrooms - not sure if there's been a leak previously or whether there's another minor issue with the drains at that end of the house. Bed in downstairs double with the en suite could do with an upgrade. The mattress is very soft with little support and the bed base had some slats that had come out of their slots which we rectified but it made little difference - they're not very sturdy and one looked split. Fortunately there was only one person sleeping in the bed. Neither of the above issues impacted our enjoyment of the house - there were six of us and the universal view was that it was a great house and a location that couldn't be bettered. Just a couple of tweaks and it would be five stars across the board.

We all enjoyed our stay in Voebroch and would recommend it.

The views are amazing. However, we would like to make the following observations: 1. Not enough towels 2. One of the single beds is extremely wobbly mattress falls to one side. 3. Chair leg on two dining chairs loose and wobbly 4. No ironing board 5. The drain smells in twin bedroom 6. Drawers in the downstairs double bedroom leading onto courtyard broken and the room has an odd smell. 7. Bolt on Side gate to yard isn’t secure We hope the above comments are useful.

Great place for a family holiday.

Everything we needed and more. The house was clean and comfortable and the garden was great for relaxing and playing. Perfect for exploring the surrounding area.

Great accommodation and location .

Only disappointments were the barbecue which was rusty & unusable. In the Garage Games area there were no darts for the dart board & some of the players on the football table were damaged.

I think the gardens should have had the lawns mowed so that dog poo was easier to collect if you hadn't seen the dogs do it there and then x Also a washing line would be have been helpful x Down stair bedroom near living room - lots of spiders.

Games room fab - maybe heat it xx But did love it xx

Had a great stay at the property.

Fab location and very well appointed for a group. One slight minus is that the sofa leg (front right) in the kitchen was broken so we couldn't sit on the sofa. We did email the owner to let them know and didn't expect them to fix it over the New Year - but I hope they get it fixed for the next guests as it meant we could only sit on the kitchen chairs in that room. Aside from that, it was a great stay..

A fabulous place to stay, every comfort has been thought of for all guests.

Plenty of cooking equipment, Plates, glasses, cutlery etc. lovely comfortable beds and beautiful white bedding. Amazing views. What more can I say. Brilliant

The property is in a lovely location overlooking the sea.

It is very spacious and comfortable however we did have a couple of issues. The toilet seat in the wet room was loose and as we had an elderly infirm relative with us she was unable to use it. Fortunately we had able bodied men with us who were able to get the wheelchair down the steps to the other en-suite. We were also advised on arrival that the dishwasher wasn’t working. There were 10 of us so we generated a fair amount of washing up and the clean up wasn’t quick and easy. Unable to give 5 stars as we paid a lot of money for 2 nights and the facilities advertised weren’t available.

The property location was spectacular.

The road getting to this property is a single track and very hilly. I wouldn't want to be there in bad weather. I found the cottage using the direction provided on the Sykes app. It's got a tight drive way. Inside the property we were met with a damp smell. The first 2 rooms are bedrooms which are very nice both ensuites. Then there is large open plan living and dining. The view out in the garden is superb. You have a bedroom at the bottom of the stairs. 2 bedrooms upstairs. In one of the bedrooms has a bath which in my opinion doesn't need to be there. What about condensation if using it. It was by the window so I couldn't get close enough to open a window. The bath was dirty. The other bedroom was really spacious and had the view of the sea and the little bays. The bathroom upstairs had both a shower and a bath and again in my opinion the bath didn't need to be there. It took a lot of the space up. I wasn't able to assist the person in that tight space. I also found weird was that it had curtains at the window and clear glass. In my opinion it would benefit from frosted glass and removing the curtains. Downstairs of the kitchen was a room that had a fridge/freezer. That had an odour to it, there was the water dispenser in the fridge door. I removed the dispenser to fill it up and noticed that it was dirty. I had cleaned it out and then left it empty. The owners need to be aware of this. In that space is a wine cooler. We weren't made aware that the cooler was going to be filled with wines and champagne that can be purchased. In my opinion is unnecessary. We had to hide the bottles because of the people we had taken on holiday, it was too tempting. There was a bottle of wine in a welcome basket which we couldn't use. It was very nice but the owners need to know. The kitchen bin lid was dirty and wasn't on the bin but left in the bottom. On going to put the rubbish out side we found that the bin was that full we couldn't get our rubbish in it. We had to leave it by the wheelie bin. It had a lock on it and we decided to leave it of all week to allow the bin to get emptied but it hadn't got emptied by the time we left. The gardener turned up on our last day and needed letting in the bottom gate. If we hadn't been there then they wouldn't have been able to get in. I just find it a bit unorganised. On our first day we had to let the drain man is because the drains had been backing up and the last day the gardener turns up. I hope the owner listens to customers comments then it could be a lovely holiday cottage.

Could not fault this cottage, the pictures do not do it justice.

Simply amazing. Thank you so much for the most amazing stay, we 100% will be back. I have posted the cottage on my social media and people are already asking me where this is so hopefully they will come and stay with you too!!

What a wonderful stay.

The house is even more gorgeous than in the photographs! It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The owner & his cleaning and maintenance team were fab - super responsive and thorough. The added touches like having a complementary welcome pack, nice toiletries, and even charcoal for the BBQ was very much appreciated. The location is absolutely stunning, an incredible view & there was ample parking for our 3 big cars on the driveway. We very much enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend this property.

The property was near perfect for a multi generational celebration of my Mum’s 90th birthday.

One or two minor points. Anti slip mats in the showers would have been useful. Electric whisk and mixing bowls would be useful We had a wonderful time and we’re very fortunate with the weather. Thank you very much.

Absolutely amazing holiday.

The location is perfect, the view from the picnic tables at the end of the garden is beautiful and inspiring. The house itself is lovely and it was a wrench to leave at the end of the week. Will definitely go again.

Excellent property with a lovely garden providing wonderful sea views

For the first two days there was no hot water - however after having reported the problem, an engineer did attend and made a temporary repair allowing the heat pump to provide hot water.

One of the bathrooms (the twin bedroom) needs the drain clearing as it appears partially blocked and the extractor fan does not work. The listing could mention that there is a games room in the garage - we didn't find out about it till later on in the holiday. Apart from those points, we enjoyed our stay, lovely part of the country.

A lovely house in a fantastic location.

We were apprehensive after reading an online review about cleanliness but overall cleanliness was great with the exception of the kitchen floor and washing machine. The house smelt strongly of dogs and we had to keep the doors open, this seemed to be the carpet in the kitchen as it wasn't very clean. This could probably be easily avoided with a mop-able kitchen floor. We also cleaned out the washing machine which was dirty inside and had black grime on the inside of the door and sludge in the dispensing door. Just to feedback to the owner as I'm not sure the machine works properly which is why this has built up. Overall we had a lovely stay, the views are amazing and lots of great walks right on the doorstep.

This was a memorable holiday for all the wrong reasons.

Filthy property, dog excrement in the garden, overflowing bins, uncomfortable beds (the 2 downstairs en-suites), no hot water for 48 hours… there was a lot & 2 weeks later I am STILL awaiting a response from Sykes.

Property had not been cleaned, there was was not enough dining rooms chairs for the number of guests, no hot water Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Futon I tire was cheap drawer was broken others didn’t open easy, kitchen had two sauce pans for a ten person property. Was promised cleaner would be at property after we complained. We stayed in Friday night and they did not arrive. Appalled with the state of the property and lack of response from the owner and customer care. Put in a complaint two weeks ago and still waiting to hear back. No communication from Sykes. Will not be booking with your company again.
