“There are fantastic sea views throughout the property & we never tired of looking out the windows.”

We chose this cottage because it had a balcony. But we stayed in May and each day it was too cold to sit out because you get biting wind on the balcony directly from the sea. Even if we had wanted to, the plastic chairs were all covered in seagull poo. A plastic chair cover would solve this! It was good to have wifi as there is NO phone reception anywhere in the village. The cottage is very well equiped, even a teapot. The crockery was very plentiful & high quality. Dawn provided cleaning materials, wine, milk, crisps & biscuits, tea & coffee. Plus dog blankets, dog treats & blankets - a nice touch. Now a few negatives - the sofa covers need washing, they are grubby. The kitchen needs a complete refurb'. The fridge freezer is cracked inside & the seals on the freezer are broken making it difficult to shut tight & in danger of not staying frozen. The cooking knives are blunt. And the kitchen flooring is so worn out there are many cut marks in various parts of the flooring. The whole kitchen looks tired and worn & needs upgrading. We found the single beds extremely hard, but that's just personal choice, others may like them. We could see that the bedding was high quality when first purchased. But now it is all worn. In the twin room one duvet cover had a hole in, and many wrips in the bottom sheet. Not good, considering how much the weekly fee is to stay there !!

Thank your for the positive aspects of your review. I will address the negatives. The week you stayed unfortunately if I recall living on the East coast there was a biting wind from the sea unfortunately not something I could control. The chairs have covers which do disappear I will replace them again. In the 30 years of owning Fishermans the kitchen has had various updates maybe not to everyone`s taste but all cupboards have been replaced within the last few years. The flooring was replaced in 2023 but as I cater for all ages of dogs it does take some wear and tear, it is due to be replaced at the end of the year. The beds all mattresses again were replaced in early 2023 Medium softness, hotel quality locally made they also have an addition of a mattress topper. The bedding was completely replaced again in 2023 was high quality and do expect it to last last longer than 2 years . There is no excuse for a duvet cover with a hole or ripped sheets as each bed has 5 sets of covers with one spare and 3 sets of sheets. I will take this up with the housekeeper also the sofa covers. The fridge freezer is less than 5 years old but will replace if needs be also the knives as I wasn`t aware when I stayed 6 weeks ago they were blunt. Property Owner

This pretty cottage is tucked away into the seaside village of Staithes, a central location with fabulous views from every room, and its very own balcony.

Perfect for families and friends, Fishermans Cottage is a wonderful place to make yourselves at home, a great base for exploring the coastline and the North York Moors.

Built on top of the estuary, the interior comprises a well-equipped kitchen and a small breakfast table, ideal for enjoying a warm cup of tea before the day ahead.

Scenic views almost follow you around, continuing through to the lounge which is comfy and inviting, providing access to the outdoors.

Choose from one of the books available, and relax on the three-seater sofa, or armchairs, escaping into your own world amongst the tranquil outlook.

There is also a dining table should you wish to gather together for some quality time, as the night closes in.

The first floor reveals three stylish bedrooms, with somewhere for all the family to unwind after a long day, and charming furnishings to off-set the layout wholeheartedly.

A lovely family bathroom completes the accommodation with a shower above the bath.

Carefully co-ordinated, this cottage provides a homely base to explore not only the coastline but the North York Moors as well.

Whitby is only 10 miles and offers a swimming pool, golf course and a variety of entertainments.

Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms.

The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge.

A beautiful retreat in a peaceful destination.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
