Harbour House

Lovely property rooms all very spacious we were a group of 7 adults and we did not take our dog as the weather was to hot fo him to travel.

As for the cleaning it was spotless no dogs hair ANYWHERE.Lovely cotton sheets on beds.(if I could just say the velox windows in top bedrooms probably do need a blind and as the weather is very hot fans for top floor bedrooms) Main bedroom large and airy nice en suite and again spotless (shout out to the cleaners) maybe instructions for the top oven would be helpful, but kitchen had everything you would need . Location: Fantastic view of Abbey outside front door in lovely little street. Walking distance to harbour and restaurants and pubs all very near lots of micro brewery ones to Recommendation for an excellent fish restaurant MAGPIE CAFE. But you are spoilt for choice. Check in easy and parking permits and scratch cards all ready and easy available pick up from Yorkshire county cottages very near property. We all had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend this property and Sykes cottages and the Lovely Whitby I will be back

My husband and I and our dog, together with our 2 friends and their dog had a great time in Whitby at this property.

It was close to all amenities- pubs, buses and eateries. Lovely comfy beds and everything you could need. The outside space could have been a bit better as it could do with a spruce up.

Not happy with our stay at all, the property didnt feel overly clean, seems like its been given a a quick tidy and clean but needs a deep clean to remove the thick layers of dust around the living room especially (we have photos).

The house stinks every morning, smells damp and musty and there is a regular stench of sewage intermittently floating through the property. The sofa in the living room is awful, it's tatty and the covers are hanging off, I tried to straighten up the covers but stopped when I put my hand down the side of one and felt all the crumbs and dirt that was down there, absaloutely gross. The sofa also seems to have had a makeshift repair and there is a piece of wood underneath the seats, it doesnt even fit properly and sticks out, one of our guests really hurt the back of her leg when she sat down, its dangerous. The living room chairs were covered in white dog hair, we get the house is dog friendly but it didnt appear any effort was made to remove the hair the previous dog had left behind, never experienced this previously in any other dog friendly accommodation and was sick of trying to get dog hair off our clothes. Outside furniture is very tatty and tired and the yard needs a good sweep. There is also a very rusty manhole cover outside there that is flaking apart and seems quite dangerous, if someone stands on that and it breaks they are going to get really hurt. Bedrooms were ok, the sheets were clean but when we stripped the beds before we left the mattresses were covered in stains, one was even still damp underneath with a big yellow stain. Some of the bedroom door handles were hanging off, was worried they might fall off and someone get trapped in a bedroom. There is a large crack in the wall in the wardrobe in the lower front bedroom, not a major issue for us however just added to the overall feel of a poorly maintained property. The lower rear bedroom beds are metal frames which are loose and need tightening up, they rattle and wobble with every tiny movement and our guests struggled to get a good rest due to the rattling about all night. Kitchen was clean and tidy however the freezer cupboard door is broken and there is a metal grate at the bottom of the kitchen units that is rusty, it flakes rust all over the floor. Alot of these issues are fairly easy and inexpensive to resolve so its unclear why they havent been, it seems a really poorly maintained property that needs a proper deep clean. We are mortified at the price we have payed to stay here it was ridiculously expensive for what it is and put a downer on a family holiday we were all really looking forward to. We had to spend more time inside than we hoped due to the heatwave but who wants to be stuck in a stinky dirty house. On the plus side the location is brilliant but absaloutely would not reccomend anyone stay here in its current state as you will be sorely dissapointed and might even get hurt due to some of the issues above. Awful and a rip off

This house is perfect for a family. It was immaculate, comfortable and located within walking distance of all the sights. We will be back !

The cottage was spotless inside and perfectly located for exploring the town.

Unfortunately, a persistent odor from a blocked shower made our stay unpleasant, and the issue appeared completely unaddressed by cleaning staff. Additionally, the outdoor area was neglected, undeniably unusable, with broken children toys, another persistent odour from the drains and seagull droppings on the furniture, this outdoor space requires significantly better maintenance to meet guests’ needs.

Lovely weekend at Harbour House.

Central location, house was spotlessly clean, beds very comfy, kitchen well equipped. However, we found the sofa in the lounge a little tatty, could do with some fresh covers. Also the little courtyard at the back was uninviting. Needed a good clean, maybe some decor on the walls and some plants. Furniture was a bit tatty too.

It’s a lovely traditional house in a great location.

Lovely warm and comfortable house very convenient for Whitby attractions. Kitchen rather cramped but still managed Xmas lunch for 7. Overall would certainly recommend.

Absolutely gorgeous house in the centre of Whitby, our stay was very comfortable and homely.

There were x6 adults and plenty of room. Would highly recommend and hope to come back. Some small repairs needed in terms of door handles needing tightening/repairing in twin bedroom and dishwasher door needs recovering but can still use. Additional street parking is a challenge with the scratch cards, especially on weekends as we had to drive around for 20mins, although bargain price of £2.50 for 4 days.

This was a great find.

Spotless and very comfortable. Lovely thick towels. Perfect location. Only criticism is the chairs for the dining table are to big for all of us to sit at the table comfortably together. The main bathroom didn’t have any shelves or cupboards so wash bags have to go on the floor. Dog friendly accommodation but only one dog bowl provided. This wasn’t the end of the world because I always have a water bowl in the car. This feels a little bit like nit picking because I would 100% stay here again.

The property was well appointed and only a short distance from Whitby town centre.

The kitchen is tiny if you have 8 people staying, but we were largely out and about so not inclined to do much cooking ourselves. The windows were very difficult to open being old sash windows and we felt that we needed some fresh air in view of the heat during the past week. The sofa really does need replacing as one part sinks down when sitting. Overall though, the house is beautiful and the fittings and bathrooms are of a high quality and standard.

This is an ideal house for our family get together and is our 2nd time staying at Harbour House.

The house is well appointed, the beds are very comfortable with crisp clean linen and having 3 bathrooms is a bonus. However I was disappointed in the fact that the temperamental microwave which I reported as faulty previously is the same one as last year and have noted that other people have also reported this. If the owners don't want to replace it, then another one should be placed either on the worktop or placed in the cupboard. The dish rack doesn't have a base to it, therefore all the water drains onto the worktop soaking everything, this should be easy to remedy. The courtyard is dirty and the garden furniture is needing replaced. The slabs are covered in green algae and need a good power wash. It certainly doesn't look anything like the photos. As a result we were unable to use it... Very disappointing.

The rear courtyard was dirty and full of bird droppings.

Not a nice place to sit in. The vanity unit door on the 3rd floor was broken and needed repair. The settee really needs replacing.The location is excellent. The rest of the house is very good. I made the same feedback last year but obviously my comments were not heeded. I will not return next year

This property is very tired it needs revamping especially the kitchen.

The shower cubicles need repair as showing signs of mould. Very disappointed with the back yard . On the photo it looks clean and inviting it’s completely the opposite … poor state of repair filthy and unkept we couldn’t use it . The windows are sash , again inside not clean nor painted in a while . Beds are cheap mattresses . Expensive for what you get.

The property was in an ideal location.

The downstairs of the property was smaller than expected but had all the amenities one would expect. The second floor of the property could do with some improvements (damp on windows, mould in grout in bathroom) but that did not spoil the overall enjoyment.

We found the house very well presented and the Xmas welcome pack, including tree and decorations etc.

very welcome, the beds were comfy and the house was warm. The only thing I would point out is that the key safe is low down and has been painted black making it difficult to locate in the dusk.

Like a lot of holiday properties it is need of some TLC.

The owners are presumably employing a ‘cash cow’ model with minimal investment. Beds, furniture and kitchen equipment need upgrading and a plan of thorough redecoration needs putting in place. The property is in a great location and the parking although not ideal is manageable. In its current state of presentation not worth the 4 ticks or the money we paid for it

We loved our stay in Harbour House.

The house was very clean and comfortable. The only negative feedback I would give is that the microwave is difficult to use and had to switch off at the wall to set the clock a number of times. The outside area could do with a pressure wash and the passage to the bin is very untidy.

Would stsy again. Note that outside space limited, as town properties often are. Could do with a power wash. Shower in ensuite had a lot of black mould and smelt unpleasant. Bought some cleaner, all good after a day or so. Overall very good.

Harbour house is in a great location, ample bedroom space, good lounge with netflix etc, kitchen on the small side but everything you need.

We had a good stay with 6 adults a 5year old a 2 year old and baby. I would recommend for large family group.

A great location.

Generally roomy for everyone but the kitchen is on the small side. The outside area (courtyard)? is a mess. Needs a good clean and the seating etc was covered in bird droppings. The render is also loose on the wall overlooking the courtyard and needs repair and painting. The area for the bins was a disgrace. 2 broken panes of glass in the kitchen window looking out to the courtyard. This window and the dining area window are in need of cleaning. A pair of socks were found in the 1st floor bedroom set of drawers. There are no rails or hooks in the bathrooms to hang towels etc. The settee in the lounge is past it’s best. The bedrooms and bathrooms are a good size and the rest of the house was clean and maintained.

The outside seating area was a disappointment to the rest of the house however there isn’t much that you could do, but it was grubby and filled will seagul poo.

The passage where the dustbin was located was disgusting, full with rubbish and just generally grotty. There was no recycling bin and therefore we felt guilty chucking recyclables in the general waste. Also, it would’ve have been nice to have a hand rail down the three steps into the kitchen. In terms of the general condition and cleanliness in the house we were very pleased, other than the comments listed above. We were impressed with the general facilities and we would stay again.

Had a lovely week away at Harbour House.

We arrived for check-in at five o'clock on a bank holiday. As we had two cars we could not find a space anywhere to park the second with the scratch cards provided. I don't understand now that Covid is not an issue why check-in can not be earlier. However, the parking situation did resolve once the bank holiday was over. Apart from the initial parking struggle the cottage is fantastically situated within walking distance of everything in Whitby. The house was spotless and the welcome bag was a lovely touch. We had a problem with a blocked sink but we contacted the agents and it was dealt with straight away. It would have been nice to have some wood and matches for the fire for the first night. Apart from these minor issues, the cottage was cosy, comfortable, very clean, and perfectly situated for all that Whitby has to offer. Would definitely stay again.

Good location, a short walk to the harbour. Plenty of space for six friends. Very clean. Comfortable beds with quality linen.

Had a fantastic time with the family on what would normally be a miserable weekend in January.

All of the bedrooms where comfortable and a good size unlike other accommodation where there is usually a tiny room suitably for younger children only .

we had a very enjoyable stay at harbour house.

The house is clean and comfortable for eight people. The location is good with easy access to the town. to see the view of Whitby abbey that is boasted about in the description you would need to go outside and down the street a little, but then it is a good view across town. A number of light bulbs could need replacing, but all in it was a very good holliday.

We have stayed at Harbour House twice before and have already booked to stay next year.

We are four mature ladies who all like our own room and this house is just the job for us.

Very happy when we arrived at Harbour House Whitby, location was excellent being in the centre of Whitby so everywhere was walking distance after unloading and parking the cars.

All bedrooms spacious and clean on the 2 floors and 2 bathrooms and 1 bedroom with en-suite. Kitchen is compact so more than 2 people is a squeeze. One thing I will say about the kitchen is when you wash up and put items to drain the water makes the worktops wet, I don't know if it would benefit a draining tray to collect the water! We found a bulb had blown in the inside porch area on arrival when trying to unload the cars in the dark but after calling the number in the welcome book it was rectified the following day and also a new plastic shower mat was supplied after I said the one in the bathroom had seen better days! We were so lucky with the weather being end of October, we all had a great time and stay and would definitely book Harbour House again if another family holiday in Whitby came up!

A great holiday in a comfortable house.

Central, but quiet location, and great layout - good to have bedrooms on two floors, and three bathrooms. Suggest a chair or surface to put things on in large bathroom, and hooks in the en suite would be useful simple improvements. Like other reviews, we found the microwave impossible to use. The small yard doesn't match the quality of the house, and could be upgraded. There were a few cigarette butts left in the yard. Overall would recommend this spacious and characterful house for a family group.

The second time we have stayed in this property and it is in a great location.

Good to have 3 bathrooms but the en-suite shower is quite erratic. Early problems when we arrived were dealt with quickly and with courtesy. We were quite surprised to be paying almost 50 % more than last year for the same week but it’s a sign of the times

The property was lovely, and in a perfect position in the town.

We did have a couple of problems but these were sorted out quickly and efficiently.

The house was perfect for us.

We were a family of 2 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 young boys and 2 young girls, therefore, the room configuration was perfect. The adults having ensuite bathrooms was great. Harbour house is in a perfect position for the town, shops and beaches, which were all within walking distance. Overall we had a great holiday and would readily recommend Harbour House and Sykes Holiday cottages.

Property not as clean as could be, underwear left in more than one drawer, shower head broken in main bathroom, back yard too dirty to use could do with a good clean.

The property was lovely and exactly as described.

It was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. The location is fantastic, perfect for walking into Whitby and in such close proximity to everything that you need. If I was being really pedantic I would say that they could maybe have provided more toilet rolls and there were no replacement bin bags in the kitchen but that's it. It's a lovely house, fantastically comfortable and perfect for a family stay.

8 adults & 2 babies stayed in the property for the weekend and it was perfect for what we needed. Very clean, spacious and welcoming home. We had a minor issue with one of the beds but this was dealt with and fixed by the owners within an hour of us notifying them which was amazing!! We will visit again & definitely recommend - thanks!

A lovely house, great location - warm, well furnished and very comfortable beds.

Parking worked fine in the car park despite it being a busy half term week. Lots of lovely cafes and restaurants locally, we especially recommend the Rusty Shears close by for lunch or their bistro evenings. We had a few issues with tradesmen wanting access unannounced and other people in the locality knocking to get us to open the back alleyway up but I think these were pretty isolated incidents and unlikely to happen again! The office was helpful trying to sort them out and it didn’t detract from our stay. Highly recommend this property especially for an extended family like ours.

Lovely house in the with all your comforts… spent a week there and with 5 others and it was lovely and spacious with plenty of room for 8 people.

The kitchen wasn’t very big but we made it work. Very close to the main centre of town and very close to the beach. The only downside I can say is it took us about 2 days to figure out how to use the microwave and when we tried to use the TV mid week all we was getting was no signal (but I know there was recently a fire at the main transmitter so we just put it down to that) The cleaning downstairs also wasn’t really great as crisps were found between the cushions of the sofa and dust in the lounge. Saying this the upstairs was very clean and the beds were VERY comfy. We would stay here again.

Comfortable houses in an ideal and quiet location, within a few minutes walk of shops and 5-10 mins from harbour.

Expensive pay and display parking on the door step and only 5 mins walk to the West Cliff car park for which a free ticket is provided. Street-side parking vouchers also available for a second car, but you may have to drive round to find a space. Rooms are all a good size although the kitchen is best left to one person as it's quite narrow. If you want to cook at home, suggest bringing your own sharp knives as those in the property are rather blunt. Comfortable beds and wonderfully powerful showers. Would go back !

The cottage and location were very good.

Parking in the area around the cottage was quite tricky but we were in an unusually busy time. What did let the property down was the kitchen. Some of the pans were not clean, we only managed to get the microwave to work once and there was no instructions for it. There were wheels missing on the dishwasher bottom drawer which made it very difficult to pull out. When the dishwasher or oven was open it meant no one could get in the kitchen and all the glasses including the wine and Prosecco glasses were kept in drawer so if the drawer was half empty and opened it was very difficult to not break the glasses. The rest of the house was lovely and we had a very enjoyable stay.

Neighbours made our stay disappointing - as they asked our child to stay still.

Given we have a toddler that's not possible so perhaps you have to say no children allowed with stays. Also the bathroom pipes leaked which wasn't your fault but water went through the ceiling and caused quite a bit of concern / we had to stay in for plumber and one time we didn't they let themselves in - when all our things are in the house that shouldn't have been allowed. The house itself is fine but the dishwasher had a very bad smell and didn't clean things so we washed all in sink. And the house wasn't totally cleaned to a high standard. It worked as a base but the price was astronomical in return for what we got. We paid well over £2k

Very well equipped cottage in a fabulous location.

Really comfortable beds and brilliant to have 3 bathrooms. The addition of two parking spaces really appreciated.

Lovely place with lots of facilities.

Really really comfortable and spacious living ! The kitchen was small for the amount of people it has in the property but functional except for the microwave, way too hard to understand even with the instructions. The outdoor space was disappointing but thank you for trying. The property needs a few simple things to make it a little bit more special. These things were mentioned in the visitors book several times over a period of time but have obviously not been acted on. They are, Coat hooks in the hall. Shoe racks in the hall More serving spoons There is also confusion about the bins .... even though it says in the instructions there are green and blue bins in the alleyway we could not find any . I did call the office to come and clear the rubbish and a lovely lady came but only once . A lovely place overall though.

Yorkshire Coastal Cottage staff very helpful when we reported wi-fi code had worn out. Lovely, lovely location and a good, nicely designed family house.

Fantastic customer service, the office had no problem answering my millions of questions prior to booking. We have just returned from a weekend in Whitby at Harbour House and the property was beautiful, spotlessly clean and great facilities/equipment. Would highly recommend Yorkshire Coastal Cottages.

Our children and grandchildren all love Whitby (it's in the blood so they should) and are already planning for next year. We had a very chilled 3 days even though the weather was against us.
