“We recently stayed at The Nutshell and found the location to be absolutely ideal for exploring Whitby.”

The owner was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Unfortunately, a few comfort and maintenance issues impacted our experience, to the point where we didn't particularly enjoy spending time inside the cottage: Bedroom & Sleep Quality: As others have mentioned there's a bright green emergency light directly above the bed, which kept the room too bright for sleep (I had to pop to Boyes to buy an eye mask after the first night). I also found the mattress to be too soft, and the pillows were quite hard and flat. Cleanliness & Odour: There was a persistent musty smell throughout the cottage, possibly originating from the carpets, and we noticed some black mould in the wet room which made it feel a bit grimy. It’s a shame as the cottage has great potential. With a few adjustments such as addressing the lighting over the bed, updating the bedding, and resolving the damp/mould issues in the wet room it could be a fantastic place to stay, but I wouldn't want to come back as it currently is.

Hi Josie Thank you for taking the time to review Nutshell. Following your comments I have asked the cleaner to look into carpet cleaners and will get them in as soon as there is an appropriate gap. I have also asked my electrician if there is any possibility of moving the emergency light. I'm sure you will appreciate that customers are going to have different requirements when if comes to the mattress. Some will like soft, some hard and some in between. When I changed the mattress I took the advice of the company and went for the middle. I will have a look at the pillows when next in Whitby and change if needed. Kind regards Andy Property Owner

The property

A splendid apartment, in a converted Victorian property, centrally located in the historic port of Whitby.

Set over two floors, entry is via a decorative wrought iron gate and sixteen external steps.

Small but perfectly formed, this beautifully renovated apartment is just the ticket for couples to enjoy the many attractions this atmospheric town has to offer, surrounded by the stunning scenery of the North York Moors National Park.

It has a bespoke, galley-style kitchen, with a slate floor and ceramic sink, leading into a wet room with luxurious underfloor heating.

From the kitchen, there are two steps down to the sunny sitting room, with a dining table tucked under the spiral staircase.

Furnished in a nautical theme, with painted, white beams, this bright and cheerful room is relaxing and comfortable.

On the mezzanine floor above is the double bedroom, whilst the tiny patio area outside the front door, which overlooks the local church, provides a pleasant spot for a morning coffee.

Ideally placed, you’re just a couple of minutes’ walk to the excellent amenities of this popular seaside resort, including restaurants, cocktail bars and independent shops.

Sample the traditional tea rooms, explore the cobbled market square and wander the web of quaint narrow streets and alleyways.

Why not climb the 199 steps up to the famous Whitby Abbey, or take an exhilarating clifftop walk on the Cleveland Way to blow the cobwebs away?

With long, sandy beaches, a picturesque harbour, museums and galleries, there is plenty to occupy everyone.

A lovely apartment, that won't disappoint.
