Duchess of Hamilton @ Engine Shed

The Duchess of Hamilton Engine Shed is the best self- catering holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in.

We couldn’t find fault with anything. The location was perfect being so close to the town centre and railway station; the furnishings were so comfortable, the kitchen well appointed with everything we needed; the bathroom was just a joy and the icing on the cake was the position immediately adjacent to the North York Moors Railway where could watch the heritage locomotives pass the French windows several times a day. Oh and the secure car parking was another bonus. Congratulations to the owner and Jo the house keeper, we enjoyed our stay immensely ( in case you hadn’t figured that out

The accommodation was just as described, spotlessly clean with everything that you needed.

It was so enjoyable seeing the steam train from the windows. An additional plus was the covered and secure parking. Would thoroughly recommend.

A beautiful apartment fantastically located for town, secure parking in Whitby is a massive bonus - we didn’t move the car until we checked out!

Very modern facilities and appliances. One bedroom but super spacious. The only downfall is the mattress, it significantly dips and is uncomfortable. By the second night I rolled up the bed cover to fill a dip just to make it more comfortable, then slept with a throw as a bed cover. Would have been 5* had this not been an issue. Anything else I cannot fault and the cleanliness was spot on, you’d never know anyone had been in before us.

The duchess of Hamilton is well kept modern with everything that you need for preparing meals and snacks it was spotless ideal if you are a train spotter as the nymr stopped right outside our window and was interesting to watch them couple up the engines the location was excellent a 10 minute walk to the town centre and that you got a parking space for your car was excellent my only complaint was the mattress which should be replaced as it had a big dip in it and we had to put one of the pillows in to try help but it didn't it was so uncomfortable we had to sleep at the other end of the bed that aside I would definitely recommend the engine shed to anyone

This was our second stay at the Duchess Of Hamilton.

We travel to Whitby for an event at the Pavilion every year, plus a catch with my family who live locally. The location is superb. I can honestly say, there is nothing not to like about this property. The housekeeping staff we met, were really lovely too. We would highly recommend this property …. hence, next years stay already booked at the Duchess ♥️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When we arrived at the property once found, we did drive past - maybe a clearer sign would have helped, we found entry to the property straightforward.

The accommodation is clean tidy and as described with bonus of an occasional passing steam train. The information booklet I felt needed an update as the Wi-Fi password did not work and it stated no one should use a certain parking space - the one which was allocated to the property. So there was initial confusion. However a quick message to Jo and all was sorted. There was also a problem with the tiling in the bathroom on the floor again Jo was very helpful. I would personally have like more than one bath sheet per person especially as it was warm so more than one shower per day was often needed. However I was able to use the washing machine so that solved the issue. The bed was comfortable although I’m used to blackout blinds and curtains so early sunlight woke us up early. In the lounge an armchair to sit in and maybe read would have been nice as the sofa proved not to be as comfortable as it first appeared. Despite these few niggles we have a lovely week and the accommodation was a novelty.

The Duchess of Hamilton at the Engine Shed is a beautiful apartment.

The apartment is modern with everything you need in a modern fully functional kitchen. There is a welcome back which was greatly appreciated with milk, pancake, sugar, biscuits, etc. There is also washing up pack to start you off. The bedroom is large with plenty of cupboard/wardrobe space. The shower room is modern with thick soft towels. The living area is comfortable too. There is large French doors off the bedroom and the livingroom to watch the trains go by. Covered parking is within the complex which is an added bonus. Shops, cafe and restaurants are a stone throws away. The bus station is nearby if you wish to take a trip to other places round about Whitby. An excellent location and beautiful apartment.

A superb property.

Impeccable inside and extremely comfortable. We loved the position right by the train tracks and the fact that a short walk enabled us to be within easy reach of the town and promenade. The luxury of a designated parking space in the garage was a bonus. The property has been tastefully and luxuriously renovated and the wooden ceiling beams hark back to the property’s origins along with the pictures and posters of the original locomotives. We had a wonderful time here.

The accommodation was of a high quality with the added bonus of secure parking. It is perfectly located for exploring the town and all its delights.

This is our 2nd visit to this location albeit a different apartment.

The cleaning/reception staff are first class offering to help carry bags etc. the accommodation was spotless and well equipped with everything to ensure our stay was enjoyable. One thing of note is that this apartment comes with allocated parking which is great but very tight if you have a large estate type vehicle. Two such vehicles were parked either side of us which made accessing /exiting the shed difficult at times but the parking is a bonus and the accommodation is within very easy reach of all Whitby has to offer. First class accommodation and really great location. On this visit the steam trains were not running into Whitby but on our previous visit they stopped right outside our accommodation which was very exciting to be up so close to the magnificent engines. Worth noting for those with limited mobility that this accommodation is all on one level with the car park so no steps to navigate.

The Housekeeping team do a great job and were very welcoming and helpful when we arrived. Having a parking space is a particular draw as parking is not easy in Whitby. The apartment is just a short walk from the centre and all the attractions. The highlight for us is the railway going past the window!

A lovely bolthole for a peaceful break.

Easy access to Whitby town and surrounding walks. The accommodation has all the facilities that you would need and parking on site. All the noise that you can hear are a few trains trundling pass the window. Would stay again.

We came to Whitby for New Year and what a wonderful experience staying at this property was.

It is in an ideal spot for getting around Whitby, never needing to use the car once. The property itself was extremely clean and well looked after, had everything you needed and very secure. Parking was a bonus, especially in Whitby, with your own parking spot in a secure, enclosed garage. Would also like to say the caretaker, Jo, was very helpful, nothing was a problem and she helped us out so much. The owners were so accommodating and helpful too, cannot thank them enough. Can only recommend this property, we will be back.

An exceptionally well equipped and presented holiday home.

It has the benefit of garage parking which is unusual for a home so near the town centre. The home has the amenities necessary for your stay and is very comfortable. We will be back.

The apartment was absolutely flawless, beautiful decoration and spotlessly clean.

Location was perfect and having secure off road parking is such a bonus. The only downside was the bed. My husband and I managed only a few hours of uncomfortable sleep each night, the pillows are too thin and have no support and the mattress was rock hard. The sofa was also a little on the small side, not ideal for an evening lounging after a long day of walking around Whitby. Unfortunately this would mean we are unable to give 5 stars or return to the property again.

This accommodation was superb for many reasons.

It’s so close to Whitby town centre and having its own parking space was a bonus. It had great fixtures and fittings with everything you would need for your time away. Great shower in the bathroom and a super comfortable bed. We would definitely stay here again.

Wow, as we stepped into the apartment, we was welcomed by a bright and airy open-plan space, with tall ceilings and beautiful wooden beams, with a luxury touch of a fresh flower display on the coffee table.

The welcome pack is such a lovely thoughtful touch too and very much welcomed on arrival. The beautiful room incorporates a kitchen, dining area, and lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped with high quality appliances and all the essentials you could need, with a choice of dining table and comfy chairs or equally as comfy bar stools, sitting at the breakfast bar, to eat your meals. The lounge area is snug and again high quality coordinated furnishings and light fittings make this area of the room just perfect to sit in at any time of year. We enjoyed the October sun coming through the French doors and the NYMR steam and diesel trains coming past daily and enjoyed the smiles and waving to the passengers on the trains. The bedroom is beautifully decorated with coordinated furnishings and has plenty of storage in the bedside cabinets and walk in wardrobe. A real peaceful retreat, which provided us with such restful nights sleep. The Duchess of Hamilton Apartments also has a much welcomed secure parking space in the attached garage. We have stayed in some beautiful apartments over the years, but this one absolutely tops them all and we will definitely be booking to come again and highly recommend to family and friends. Absolutely 5 Star.

This apartment is so spacious and beautifully appointed.

The location is walking distance into and really convenient for Whitby town centre. Great to have an allocated parking space and seeing the steam trains and vintage diesel every day is such a treat. The bed was rather too firm for us, but that is such a personal preference. The shower is great and overall the apartment is a lovely space. For anyone who isn’t keen on stairs, the Duchess of Hamilton is on the same level as the garage, so ideal.

Loved absolutely everything about it. Great accommodation, comfy, clean, well equipped. Loved being next to the railway and the whole character and feel of the Duchess of Hamilton. And thank you for providing bath sheets rather than bath towels. #it’s the small things. Will definitely be back.

Everything was spotlessly clean which is thanks to Jo and her great team. Lovely to have the steam trains stop right outside the windows. Short walk into Whitby centre and the secure parking was a definite bonus. We only used the car once. The only downside was the very uncomfortable sofa. Overall a very pleasant stay helped by the fabulous weather.

A high quality, spacious apartment with secure parking and in a central part of town.

Immaculately clean with a huge comfy bed, soft towels and a great shower - couldn't fault anything. Building feels really secure and is well designed to keep it's original features yet contains sound proof apartments. This apartment is on the entry level of the building so has stair free access. Fresh flowers and welcome bits much appreciated.

This was our second visit to The Duchess of Hamilton this year.

The apartment is immaculate and the fresh flower displays in the living area were very attractive. Our welcome pack included some delightful fresh bread and milk - very useful. Jo the housekeeper is on hand should anyone need a little help and she really is on top of her game. A delight to speak to! We had the steam train working for three days on the local line and fortunately the locomotive always stops outside of our window. Great to see the stoker loading coal and lots of enthusiasts taking photos. Another enjoyable stay in Whitby.

Two minutes walk into the centre of Whitby a beautiful bustling traditional British seaside town. Where you find plenty of the traditional seaside entertainment, good choice of shops and restaurants. We would definitely return.

It was spotless with some lovely additions. The apartments are very secure with a garage attached to park your car which was a real bonus. I would highly recommend a stay here.

This is a beautiful apartment, obviously well maintained by the owner.

Situated at car park level, so, ideal when moving your luggage to the suite. Located near to the train and bus stations so perfect if you want to travel. 5 minutes walk to the town centre. Trains trundle by and we had the privilege of seeing a steam engine stop outside of our window while the stoker loaded coke into the furnace.
