ACCESS STATEMENT FOSSIL COTTAGE, WHITBY
Fossil Cottage is a period property situated near the bottom of the 199 steps and within 50M of the beach. Arrival and Car Parking Luggage can be unloaded at the property and parking is available in either the Abbey car park at the top of the 199 steps or Church Street car park which is 0.3 miles away.
Entrance and Ground Floor: The wooden front door is 70cm wide and opens into the property with a 15cm step up into the inner hallway. The lever handle is at 85cm from floor level and the key code lock is at 145cm. The hallway has a tiled floor, measures around 1M by 3M and provides useful storage space and an area for hanging coats and wet beach gear.
Hallway has access on the left to the lounge through a wooden door, which is 75 cm wide and has a 5cm step up into the room. The door knob is at 80cm and the lock at 125cm. The lounge is 3.6M by 5M and has wooden floorboards and exposed beams to the ceiling. There are 2 armchairs and a two seat sofa in this room, along with a TV unit. The room also has a side unit, a wall mounted bookcase and a central coffee table on a loose rug. The room contains a multi fuel stove that sits on a tiled hearth and brick surround. There is a storage cupboard under the stairs.
The lounge leads on to the kitchen via an open arch. The kitchen has a tiled floor and measures 2.8M by 3.1M. There is a small 1cm step down into the kitchen. Access to the first floor is via the lounge. There are 12 carpeted steps that vary in height from 15cm to 23cm. The stairs turn as they go up and there are some shaped stairs at the top and bottom of the staircase. The stairs have a clear width of 60cm.
First floor: The first floor landing is carpeted and is 1.3M by 1.4M. The 3 first floor rooms are off this hallway and are as follows: The front master double bedroom is entered through a 64cm doorway with a door knob at 85cm. This room is carpeted, measures 3.2M by 3.7M and has exposed beams to the ceiling. The double bed has a mattress height of 60cm. The spaces around the bed are 80cm on the left, 60cm to the right and 1M at the bottom. The room contains 2 bedside tables, a dresser with stool and a built in wardrobe. The room also contains an original but non-working fireplace with tiled hearth and wooden surround.
The rear twin bedroom has a 58cm wide door with a Suffolk latch at 105cm. There is a 20cm step down into the room. The room is carpeted and measures 2.9M by 3.9M.
