Lovely little cottage perfect for our needs.

Clean and tidy and great location.

Whitby is famous for being quirky and slopy: this cottage is the same.

Over the years we've stayed in several rental properties on both sides of the harbour: Inglenook Cottage is one of the best. Comfort, quietness & facilities are great for a couple: the becroom is spacious with an excellent bed & bedding. Heating/hot water are easy to use. Very peaceful with no passing traffic, just the occasional pedestrian. Central location gives easy access to everything a holidaymaker needs: pubs (30 seconds to the nearest), harbour (one minute), shops, cafés etc. are just around the corner. Whilst parking to load/unload, we just copied the beer delivery van and parked outside the micro-pub for ten minutes, then left the car on Endeavour Wharfe car park (tickets from Touriist Information office). The owners have done an excellent job of equipping the cottage whilst maintaining the charm of an old building. From start to finish Judith was very communicative. We had a great stay. We adored Inglenook Cottage!

It had everything we could think of (even a little sewing kit, in case of emergencies) and Judith has obviously put a lot of care and thought into making the cottage a pleasure to stay in. We had a problem with the plumbing during the week but as soon as I messaged, her husband came round to attend to it, even though it was a bank holiday. Inglenook Cottage is perfectly located for access to different areas of Whitby and there are plenty of places to eat out and attractions to visit. Parking is available in nearby areas and we were provided with everything we needed to be able to park without paying. Would definitely recommend :-)

I have stayed in many holiday cottages but this one is the worst by far.

The photo's made it look lovely: I do like quirky, but this is a very unpleasant place, it is so neglected and could do with a good clean. It's badly in need of some TLC. I did not cook in the kitchen as it was not hygienic; the wooden worktops need a good scrub, they are filthy and stained. The sofa and chair has seen better days.....so uncomfortable and unsupportive, it needs to go on the tip! The throw on the sofa was filthy and smelled strongly of dog. I could go on and on about this cottage, but enough said. I came home early as I could not face another evening and night in that place. I love Whitby itself and will be back but obviously not in Inglenook, I can get a much better place to stay in for the price I paid here or even less. Sykes Holidays have disappointed me greatly in promoting such a property at the price I paid. I feel I have been robbed. I will be much more careful in future when I am choosing a holiday home. I hesitated over whether to leave an honest review, but decided that I owe it to those who look on these sights and expect the reviews to be a true reflection of what to expect. I am so sorry to do this Judith, but I hope you will take this on board as Inglenook could be a lovely little cottage with some time and money spent on it.

We really enjoyed our stay

This was probably the smallest and quirkiest property we have rented.

It was amazing. So cosy and ideally located in a quiet yet really central place for accessing the delights of Whitby. It was not cold enough for using the fireplace and the heating is really good. Kitchen very functional and well presented. Apologies for any lingering kipper aroma from Fortunes Smokehouse. Comfortable bed and plenty of room. Bathroom really well set up. Also great to be able to speak to the owner to arrange key collection and parking details. Very highly recommended.

Cottage clean and fairly well equipped but would benefit from a pair of oven gloves and the rug in kitchen is a trip hazard.

..it's too flimsy to lie flat and rucks up easily. Sofa chair and bed uncomfortable. Mattress rather hard. Seating very low, cushions slide off and back is low so no head or neck rest for older visitors.

A little gem of a cottage in a fab location and really quirky in its decor which suits the character ter of the cottage beautifully.

Very comfy bed and settee and gorgeous to light an open fire in the evening after a day walking in crisp sunny weather. Very well and thoughtfully equipped with extras that are often left out in holiday cottages eg 2 teatowels not 1, kitchen roll, foil, salt and black pepper. And even a pint of milk in the fridge. Not that shopping is an issue as, despite the quietness of the little alleyway the cottage is on, you are literally 30 seconds from a pub and a cafe and many more plus lots of shops too. We will be back!

Perfect cosy cottage for two and the dog

Great location, comfortable and quirky.

Loved sharing the cottage with the 29+ ornamental mice including the one on the stairs. Would love to stay here again.

Great wee quirky place for 2 adults plus 1 dog.

Great location, once you get the car parking solved. We found a space up on West Terrace and left the car parked for a week. Only minor complaint would be that the yard entrance could do with a hose down. Used by several properties so was a bit messy, mainly due to pigeons and seagulls.

Absolutely beautiful spotlessly clean cottage and the location was perfect!

For me I should have researched more but a little outside area would have been good to let the dog out (not the fault of the cottage at all). All the amenities on site didn’t need for anything. (One thing I would remove is the rug in the kitchen as it’s a trip hazard but again personal choice). Lovely stay and would definitely recommend. Thank you

We had a lovely 2 nights in Inglenook Cottage.

The owner was helpful and friendly. The cottage was cosy, clean and tidy. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom and bedroom were spacious and warm. Lovely bath.The location was perfect. Everything within walking distance. We felt happy and satisfied with everything. The little mice ornament theme was cute and I loved the upside down bat on the fireplace!

Lovely quirky cottage very cosy and comfortable and within walking distance of all amenities.

We were blessed with fine weather and double glazing to shut out noise of seagulls! Only drawback I would say is the lack of close car parking. I dont mind a walk up and down the many hills of Whitby but something to be aware of for others less able.

Thanks for a lovely stay, the cottage was perfect for us, clean, tidy and welcoming in an idea position.

Absolutely lovely quirky propper whitby cottage.

Warm cosy cottage everything as it should be will be returning.

The moment I entered the cottage I felt at home - it had a lovely, comfortable feel.

It was perfect for me and my greyhound! The cottage was warm and cosy (with freezing temperatures outside). I particularly loved the bathroom - great shower - and the quirky decor. Situated in the centre of town, everything was within an easy walk. And there's a fantastic cafe (Sherlock's) just on the corner! Lovely walks on the coast and the moors: the owner has provided a few suggested routes and we did the Hole of Horcum circular - highly recommended.

Loved it here will be booking again next year

This cottage was filthy.

The kitchen floor was sticky and dirty. Dirty cups, I had to scrub them before we could use them. Dried food in bowls, dirty cutlery, cupboards. Ornaments, light fitting, skirting boards filthy not cleaned in months. Lounge curtains and pole filthy covered in dirt and cobwebs. Fridge not clean, dried milk in draw and shelves look frosty but are grubby. I have photos if you want to proof. Holiday before this on we travelled five hours to Anglesey and it was cancelled 1/2 before we picked up the keys.

Lovely cottage.

Ideal for exploring Whitby and surrounding dales and coastline. Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Ideal for Beer O'clock where we along with our dog were made very welcome. Loved all the mice and other creatures around the Cottage. Parking permits worked well, thank you. Thanks for milk etc to start us off. Carol

The cottage was clean, well equipped and charming! We will be back soon.

We love going to a place which has character and is cosy, so many places now are modernised and a just blank space, but Inglenook cottage is an authentic cottage with so much character it was a joy to stay in! Right in the centre of town which was lovely and access to shops, the sea front and cafes - a bit tricky for parking but really thankful for parking permits provided.

It was perfect everything you needed was there for a perfect stay.

From the Halloween decorations to the carved mice throughout. It was really nice that a carton of milk was left in the fridge so we could have a hot drink on arrival. Location perfect with a car park 5 minutes away

Fantastic wee cottage, so quaint and quirky.

Very cosy with central heating and fabulous fireplace. Comfortably fitted our party of 2 adults and a teenager. Brilliant location within 10 minutes walk of all the pubs and restaurants and plenty of butchers, bakers etc to eat in too. Lovely cafe next door called Sherlocks with a fab escape room on its top floor. Definitely recommend this lovely wee house

Noisy early morning from grocery shop next door, this starts from around 6:45am.

Cottage could of done with a better clean as we found it quite dusty. No hair dryer but has everything else.

I Loved the place - the fire & all the funny quirky objects & interesting way the place had been furnished - obviously an artistic creative & loving hand had overseen the place- creating a relaxed homely & stimulating atmosphere - Where I and my family could relax enjoy & make some wonderful memories .

So appreciated in this day & age to beable to find a place in the centre of the town full of heart & cheer - where we could unwind & connect with a real fishing town in a real Yorkshire cottage - would love to return ❤

The cottage was lovely.

Very cosy and clean and with everything you could need. I especially loved the open fire and the quirky little touches around the cottage - beautiful seaside decor and cute ornaments to discover in the rooms. Location-wise, this cottage is absolutely perfect, as it is right in the middle of Whitby but in a peaceful location. There are shops right on the doorstep but you wouldn't know you were in the middle of a bustling town, as the ginnel down which the cottage is located affords some welcome peace and privacy after a busy day out exploring.

The location of the cottage was perfect.

It was quirky and very comfortable.

The cottage did not feel like being in a holiday home as had such a homely feel to it, comfortable and filled with quirkiness in every room.

Excellent town centre location, quaint cottage with everything you need.

The only issue we had was parking. Whitby was very busy and we struggled to find spaces in the car parks.

We have had a lovely break at Inglenook Cottage, the girls didn’t want to leave the cottage as they loved their space in the upper bedroom, the cottage was very cosy and we especially loved the bathroom and the girls had many bubbly baths.

We loved staying there, and it was a perfect location for our first visit to Yorkshire, we hope to return sometime soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed Whitby for a third time.

Cottage was very central, so parked the car up in the car park in Silver Street and walked. We found lovely little bistros off the main thoroughfare and sat enjoying the sunshine with prosecco!

TV reception was not always good, picture often 'broke up, Bath looked good, but having the shower over the bath was not ideal as not much room to move without the shower curtain getting in the way.

Heated towel-rail is too close to the wall, making it very difficult to hang towels on it. (These are not criticisms, just observations, as we really enjoyed our stay at Inglenook Cottage!)

Inglenook cottage is lovely, very comfortable with lots of quirky features in a perfect location to explore Whitby.

Great location of cottage, and directions received were perfect (not the easiest to find as it's down an alley).

You can't park directly outside the property as it's down an alley, and can only park on the main road for 1 hour from 9-6(roughly) during the day. From November-February you can park for free 5 minutes away, either up near the whale bone or across the swing bridge. Otherwise all day parking seemed to be at least £9/day at council car parks. The cottage was very cosy, with lots of little ornaments everywhere and extra little touches (e.g. sewing kit in the bedroom, first aid kit, mirror in the kitchen etc.). The cottage was mostly clean, although we did sometimes find some dog hairs when we dropped items behind chairs etc. There were also quite a few drawers with emergency items in (e.g. spare light bulbs, plug extensions) which was great. There was only two of us, but we did find the property quite small so couldn't imagine 4 of us. The table in the living room for eating would have to be pulled out for 4 people to eat, and there wouldn't be much room for plates. The kitchen doesn't really have enough storage space for a lot of food, but there is a co-op and lidl within walking distance, so really you could just buy food as and when you needed it. The cottage itself is also low on storage - there are a lot of hidden areas/locked doors that could potentially be used for extra storage, but weren't available for use whilst we stayed there. The bathroom situation is also a bit peculiar, as the shower is for rinsing of hair/bath only, and so I can only imagine that the cottage is expecting up to 4 people have a bath each day which seems like a lot of trouble. Wasn't a problem for just the two of us though. We did have problems flushing the toilet though several times. As mentioned above, there are shops within walking distance but items to note that you will need are: toilet roll (only provided with one roll), shampoo/shower gel, extra fire wood if you plan on using the fire more than once.

The cottage is wonderful and central to everything and a 2 minute walk to the harbour.

A shower that can be used would have made a huge difference.

Having a shower to rinse your hair or rinse out the bath is a waste of time. The cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable.

The cottage had everything I needed and was in a good central position.

The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. We liked the mouse theme and added a mouse ornament. The only drawback was the request not to have a stand up shower as in hot weather a shower is refreshing.

This was such a fantastic holiday cottage, well equipped, comfortable and a great location - would definitely consider booking again.

We had a great stay, my brother in law booked it as a surprise for my sisters 60th birthday and invited me and my husband along we all had a great time (I booked it on his behalf so my sister didn’t know anything about it

Had a really great time in beatiful Whitby with 3 generations of our family, youngest 5 months.

Pirate boat trip very good value for money. Restaurants and bars very friendly. Loved the inglenook fire place in our cottage would highly recommend.

Cottage is very well equipped, quaint and cosy. Whitby is the most dog friendly place I have ever been with beautiful walks literally on the doorstep of the cottage. We have stayed at the cottage twice now and will definitely be going back. Highly recommend.
