“Kingfisher sadly has many long running problems that could and should have been resolved years ago.”
To look at the ads it appears to fulfil many requirements. However we found several dangerous problems.
The ground floor bedroom has two deep steps up to it from the kitchen which made my 74 year old wife's stay a nightmare,
As she is IOSH qualified she was at times inclined to actually report this, We found out that this is a previously reported problem.
One review even tells of a 92yo falling down the steps a long time ago
My wife needed help every time she came down them. The only alternative was to go outside from the french doors and come in through the front door, not really a viable option.
This could have been resolved easily by putting up a sturdy handrail,
Since one of the selling points is the ground floor en-suite bedroom this should have been a priority.
Shame we didn't check all the feedback before we booked.
The main stairs are steep, OK for fit adults but not for small children or small pets, a simple warning should have been given in the description.
All of the beds have been fitted with extremely hard mattresses which are impossible to sleep on unless you are used to sleeping on the floor.
This has also been mentioned in previous reviews... All of the pillows were hard as well, a mix of soft and hard would have been more practical.
To cure this we had to borrow a duvet from upstairs to cover the ground floor double just to get a decent nights sleep, but the pillows were still irritatingly hard.
For the same reason our 48yo son spent the entire week sleeping on a sofa with bedding from the single beds, comfortable but hardly ideal.
Luckily there were only 3 of us staying, so there was extra bedding available...
The other older sofa was difficult to get out of, it was so soft, not ideal for the elderly.
The garden furniture, it was sufficient for 6 but like the beds needed cushions as it was too hard to relax on without them..
The kitchen chairs also needed cushions to be more comfortable..
It was not all bad, the ground floor en-suite wet room was excellent and the kitchen well laid out ( the Dishwasher, Air fryer and Fridge freezer were nice to see extras ) and the view of the Abbey from the upstairs bedroom was well planned.
Luckily we all enjoyed the Whitby experience, so despite the problems with Kingfisher we enjoyed the week.
For the reasons above we won't be booking this property again or recommending Kingfisher to anyone..
