Premier, Transit & Lady Hilda @ Engine Shed

We had a lovely stay in Lady Hilda and it was a novelty to stay next to the Railway station and we did wave at the trains going by, couldn't help my self.

It wasn't noisy at all the only fault i could find was the lack of a wooden spoon to stir hubbys Porage . Perfectly placed for the bus station ,train station and the Co op for groceries. Would recommend.

Accommodation was in the perfect location for my train loving husband.

The moment we arrived and settled in a steam locomotive pulled in to the station. It was also very convenient for our train journey up to Newcastle on the Saturday, we practically rolled out of bed and on to the train

We enjoyed our stay at Premier, Transit and Lady Hilda.

We found the property clean and tidy and just as expected. Car parking was a bonus and five minutes walk into Whitby.

This was our second visit to The Engine Shed and once again we were not disappointed.

The accommodation was spotlessly clean and exactly as described in the brochure. The bedroom was very large and the super king bed was most comfortable. The passing trains added character to the stay and as we are early risers the whistles were not a problem for us. Would certainly recommend these accommodations as a base for exploring Whitby, Saltburn, Sandsend & Scarborough, we will be returning for a third time soon.

Beautiful apartment, spotlessly clean, brilliant location and well equipped, would definitely like to visit again and have already recommended to friends and family.

The Engine Shed was brilliant, amazing accomodation even though we were only there two nights it was exceptionally clean, comfortable and all the facilities you needed and more.

Even though it's next to the Trainline it's not busy trains all day...well worth the extra compared to other accomodation but a perfect location for seeing Whitby.

From the minute we booked and received a check in message from Jo, we knew we had chosen the best place.

Everything was perfect and nothing was too much trouble. The welcome pack on arrival; the detailed information book; the facilities available for use with our baby; the high spec features of the apartment; the parking; the close proximity to Whitby centre and, of course, the unique position along the railway - it all helped to create a wonderful stay and cemented The Engine Shed as somewhere we would love to go back to.

An amazing property in a fantastic location.

Right in the centre of Whitby, waking distance from everything you need along with secure parking and stunning views of the town. Even if you aren’t interested in railways it is a lovely place to stay. The housekeeping team of Jo and Ash also do a fabulous job.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Engine Shed.

The apartments are beautiful, clean and have everything you need. Secure parking is a bonus. Being on the railway line is a novelty. I would highly recommend.

Second time here and there is no doubt the apartments are brilliant; superbly appointed and lots of lovely finishing touches like - Xmas decorations, champagne, chocolates and so forth on arrival.

Downside this time - I couldn’t get my car in the garage and use the electric chargers (too many cars). Also we got locked out (or in my wife’s case - in) on New Year’s Day - along with several other guests. One of those things but.. Sadly others (non-residents) abusing the bin facilities as well.

Excellent, comfortable accommodation in prime position - central, but very quiet.

Stayed in a few places there now and the parking is a great added bonus. Great location.

We reported that the handle on the oven door required attention.

The maintenance man came the following morning and fixed it. However, he didn't give us a time and arrived by surprise.

Fantastic location. Very well appointed. Very well equipped. We'd go as far as saying one of the best we've ever stayed in.

Premium location with secure parking 5 minutes walk in to the centre of Whitby Accommodation beautifully thought out - everything you could possibly need provided Didn’t realise we were on a live section of railway line - a steam engine pulled in 5 minutes after we arrived , Fantastic !

Good solid double glazing so no noise issues although the trains are not over frequent Would definitely stay here again Surpassed all our expectations

The Engine Shed is in a great location, with easy access to all of Whitby on foot.

On site secure car parking with EV charging is excellent. Everything that you could want in the apartment, including some special extras such as a teapot and both a towel and tea towel in the kitchen. All a must for us! Large, high, comfy bed. As others have commented, the Engine Shed is on a train line. You do hear the trains, but it is not intrusive and they run at very social hours and there are no heavy goods trains. Excellent instructions in advance and good details in the guest book on arrival (so we were pre-warned about the pirate weekend before we headed to the marina!!)

The apartment was spotlessly clean,very well presented,very well appointed,comfortable,roomy,had secure parking and was a couple of minutes walk to the heart of Whitby.

Our stay was amazing.

Location, accommodation cleanliness style little treats on arrival made a fabulous memorable short stay, added bonus was the car park space and steam engine right outside our window.

Lovely apartment, clean and comfortable.

Very handy for the town and on site parking so convenient if a little cramped. Shower would benefit from a grab rail and black out curtains would be good. Apart from those minor points out stay was fantastic and we would certainly visit again

Usual high standard of everything from booking and checking in to cleanliness of apartment.

Was able to arrange early parking and check-in which is really useful in Whitby. Only slight gripe was towel rail wasn’t working in bathroom (same issue last time we stayed), but weather was so good just dried them on airer in living room. Wooden gate to bins really difficult to open - fence needs strengthening.

The shelf at the bottom of the fridge door was broken as was the bin opening.

No warning given.

We had a fantastic stay, a couple of small niggles but nothing to affect a wonderful time, Jo was a fantastic & was always available for any problems.

We would stay again & would highly recommend.

Absolutely fabulous and spacious apartment.

Really well equipped with appliances etc. And spotlessly clean when we arrived. Location was superb and we loved the trains passing by the window. Perfect for train spotters. The secure parking was really welcomed. Only gripe I have is the lack of cleaning equipment. I am more than happy to clean up but some materials would have been helpful as I had to go and buy some. Not even a vacuum cleaner…

As always a fabulous stay in these cottages.

Everything you need, very comfortable, very well equipped kitchen, lovely huge bed, great location with parking. Just one comment I’d make is that for about half of our stay there was a van or car parked outside the front door. Not an issue this time but we have already booked 3 apartments for next year when we will have people with us with mobility issues and if vehicles are parked there it could be an issue getting in or out

Property was in excellent shape and had everything one could ask for to complete a wonderful weeks holiday.

Close proximity to Town centre and railway station. Parking space in well ventilated and spacious garage, which was secure. Welcoming pack contained all we needed for the first cup of tea after the journey. We met some of the staff on arrival who could not have been any more helpful. All in all a very pleasant and restful stay.

The property was very clean and modern.

The couple of niggles we had were swiftly taken care of Jo was very responsive. A couple of comments I would make is that the settee needs to be larger or there needs to be a foot rest like a pouffe. The lamps at the side of the bed were unfortunately not bright enough for me to read by either brighter bulbs required or a lighter coloured shade would be perfect. However the apartment was in a lovely position and having the secure parking was a big bonus.

Excellent BUT the heating system needs sorting - already acknowledged by the owner.

Well appointed with v comfy bed. Brilliant location with safe private parking, which can be difficult to find in Whitby. Extremely helpful instructions on arrival/departure. Jo was brilliant in sorting early check-in and also when I thought I might need to change dates. Cleaning staff were lovely and friendly. Can thoroughly recommend!

Just got back from a weeks stay at the engine shed, we were very pleased with the accommodation, we met Jo the head housekeeper and her two young helpers and they were very helpful and friendly, the apartment was spotless on arrival, the welcome pack including a vase of fresh flowers was a lovely surprise.

Ideal location in Whitby, we would be happy to stay there again.

We have been coming to Whitby for years and we love it, The engine shed is beautiful all the apartments are super modern, spotless clean welcome pack and off road secure parking. We most definitely will be back again this year.

Perfect location to explore Whitby

We had a great stay.

The 1700 check in a little late, but we were accommodated with an earlier time. The Lady Hilda was just lovely.

Apartment was so lovely it’s our second time stopping at the engine shed, it was clean and the welcome goodies were lovely.

Only downside was there wasn’t enough car parking, some other apartments had taken 2 cars using up the spaces. On street parking was also difficult as it was Goth weekend. Would love to go back but sadly the apartments are up for sale.

Lovely place and very comfortable Only moan is the car park really needs cleaning.

There was so much cement dust that was being walked into the building and cars Did you know there is a ghost? He is not malevolent luckily

Lovely apartment, nicely furnished, clean, great location.

We enjoyed our stay very much. That said, the apartment sits on the tracks by the station, so expect plenty of noise and trains passing at eye level.

had lovely weather, apartment clean, was nice to see steam train passing.had to hunt to find bathroom fan, turned off for some reason.otherwise everything was great.

We decided to book this apartment because it’s something a bit different regarding the original use of the building and its position.

We were not disappointed, the rooms were very clean, modern and well equipped. The private car park was a great convenience. The location of the apartments is ideal, a very short walk to the centre of things. It was a pleasure watching the steam trains pass by. Would recommend to anyone.

I'm afraid we were somewhat disappointed by the end of the week.

On entering the 'Sheds' we noticed that the corridors and stairwell were not clean and it looked as though they had not seen a vacuum cleaner for some time, it was the same when we left one week later. First impressions of our accommodation was good and also thought the car parking situation was secure. We understand that we have been through a time of Covid restrictions etc but felt that having to to strip beds etc at the end of our stay was a bit over the top during current times. We have travelled to the Far East, the Caribbean, Indian Ocean and several places in the UK in recent times and we have never been subject to doing housekeeping work at the end of a holiday. My wife used to be a housekeeper for many years and it was her duty to carry out those tasks, not the guests. We usually go to Whitby every year and will continue to do so, but regrettably, we will not be back to the Engine Sheds.

Apartment was phenomenally clean and it didn’t feel like anyone else had stopped in it. We felt like we were the first guests to use the place. Great central location to explore the area. Really nice little touches that made our stay feel a little more special were the flowers, coffee, bread, biscuits etc that were in the kitchen when we arrived. We had such a relaxing stay. Would recommend to anyone.

Lovely property, very centrally located only yards away from the railway station, and with the added bonus of a garage for parking.

Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Fresh flowers and welcome pack including milk, bread and other goodies on arrival which was appreciated. Full kitchen including washer, dishwasher, oven, hob and microwave. Nice lounge area, huge comfortable beds, and walk in shower. Highly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic property, excellent location, and the secure parking is a terrific facility.

Spotlessly clean all over, everything you need is in the kitchen and the bed is extremely comfortable, if we could give one piece of constructive advice (certainly not criticism) maybe a larger sofa would be a good addition. But to be honest faultless throughout.

Beautifully furnished apartment for the train enthusiast - no outdoor space, but trains running alongside the building instead!

Good facilities in the kitchen, comfortable beds and high end fittings in the bathroom. The living area would have benefitted from a reading lamp, we feel, but apart from that we were highly satisfied with the accommodation. Parking facilities in the garage worked out well, with key fob entry to both the parking and apartment. Felt very secure.

We booked a short break for New year at very short notice (literally 2 hours).

Sykes handled our enquiry and booking with great efficiency and the whole process was very smooth. The apartment was beautifully furnished and very comfortable, the Christmas decorations gave it a lovely festive feel. It was spotlessly clean. We have stayed at other apartments in this building and found that they are all furnished and maintained to the same high standard. Oh yes, and the super king size beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept in.

This is our third visit to the property and we enjoyed it as much as ever.

Loved it!

This was the first time we stayed there, having visited Whitby many, many times before and we found it suited our requirements absolutely. We were able to leave the car safely for the time we were in Whitby and nowhere was too far away. Given that the weather became much colder during our stay, the apartment was easy to keep warm and cosy. We hope to be back.

Would benefit from a small shelf in the shower for shampoo/shower gel

Premier, Transit and Lady Hilda - what a great apartment and location.

All done out very nicely with all you need, including steam locos right outside your room ! Free secure garage parking a real bonus in busy Whitby. Very quiet block with only noise from the trackside but even that was great. The doors open fully allowing you to get the full effect of the locos. Wouldn't hesitate to come back here - enjoy! Sept 2021

What a magnificent place!

Loved the location literally on the railway station platform. The accommodation was first-class, along with the parking garage. The contact with the owner was superb. We’ll definitely be back!! Thank you!!

Excellently equipped apartment and fun for rail enthusiasts!

Don’t expect any where to sit outside, it is an old loco shed, but you would never know from inside, but trains run feet away (not many and not after 11 pm) from your windows. The added bonus of a proper garage is more than useful. Only down side was fairly slow internet speeds. Just minutes from the harbour and it’s huge selection of fish and chip venues!

everything we needed. we were lucky enough to get a parking space in the secure carpark, but if you go out, upon return you may not get a space. (which would have been an issue for us).the bays are numbered, perhaps it maybe an idea to advise residents to park in the bay corresponding with your appartment number.

Loved this accommodation.

Really clean and included everything we needed. More spacious than expected from photos. Loved the central location and all that Whitby and the surrounding area had to offer. We will be back. Only able to have half the booked holiday due to Covid track and trace contact isolation requirement but the owner kindly allowed us to stay an extra night at no additional cost - which was really appreciated.

Everything was well thought out even the welcome pack & flowers exceed our expectations.

And it was fabulous to be able to see the Steam trains running again. There was one minor detail in that the accommodation was described as ground floor in fact it appears to be lower ground floor, from entering on the ground floor level there are a dozen or so stairs down to this apartment.

Superior accommodation, the only way it could get better would be if there was a patio area to sit outside.

We’ve stayed in many flats and cottages in Whitby but nothing comes close to this gem.

Modern, spacious, luxurious and central to the Whitby and its many amenities. For those that want their car to remain free of seagull deposits there is an underground, secure parking with electrical charge points. This accommodation is more than Whitby’s general offering and the addition of those extras makes this head and shoulders over the rest.

Great apartment, in this grade 2 listed building, which has been tastefully and lovingly developed to a very high standard.

Great location, especially for steam train enthusiasts, we enjoyed seeing and hearing the trains every day during our stay. Great to have secure parking in the garage. We will certainly be visiting again.

Our second visit to this wonderful apartment was again tremendous.

There is no better place to stay in Whitby for luxury, convenience and cleanliness. Under Covid restrictions the biggest contrast to last September was in the town itself as it was so much busier. The restaurants had excellent measures in place and it felt quite safe to eat out. However, on the streets it was difficult to socially distance and we ended up wearing masks while out walking in town. Obviously there are so many options for getting away from the crowds though. We would love to come back to the apartment again next year but the large increase in cost (nearly £200 more) may prevent this sadly. Fabulous apartment.

The apartment was spotlessly clean, warm and well equipped, comfortable huge bed and nice bed linen and towels , plus lovely extras such as fresh flowers and food packs.

Garage was a bonus. Steam and regular trains were right outside the window,we loved that.

Excellent location & friendly helpful owner when contacted about parking.

I found the sofa very comfortable so either it's been changed since previous comments or that's just me! Bed was very comfortable & bathroom facilites brilliant. Takeaways near by & some lovey restaurants to visit. All in all a lovely few days.

We really enjoyed the accommodation (we were in Premier, Transit & Lady Hilda @ Engine Shed).

Initially we could not get in the main door as our code number as incorrect, but we spoke to the contact you gave us (mobile number) and very quickly we were in. We were impressed with the welcome pack (milk, bread, tea, coffee etc - many thanks). The only problem we experienced was the toilet seat was loose (I tried to fix, but its one of those seats that is only accessible before fitting to wall) ... a nice touch was to have Netflix and Amazon Prime on the TV. We loved the train set (1:1) you installed for us I think the only maor change would be to have Air Conditioning. Hopefully, later in the year we will find another similar property for a UK Staycation ;0)

We property was amazing.

So clean, sparkling and very well kept. Great location right in the middle of Whitby with safe secure parking. The bedroom was beautiful with a huge comfy super king bed and great shower room with large shower. Kitchen was large and really well equipped. The only criticism was the sofa in the lounge, it was really uncomfortable and in the end we just sat in the bedroom!

Premier, Transit and Lady Hilda is ideal for 2 people and was beautifully clean. The lounge / diner area could lend itself to a corner settee which would make it more comfortable.

Very well appointed and an excellent location.

The accommodation is fabulous; clean, well appointed, comfortable and warm, very quiet, with secure garage, and central location.

Nothing not to like, the only suggestion would be for a second comfy seat in the lounge such as small armchair so you can spread out a bit more, there is certainly room for a chair. The welcome pack was perfect and appreciated. Contacted the owner for small clarification on the property, he was very accommodating and prompt. Should be very proud of the transformation of the engine sheds. Have recommended to a number of people.

The four nights we spent in the Premier, Transit & Lady Hilda were superb, could not have asked for anything more.

Everything was perfect. The entire Engine Shed is fitted out to an extremely high quality and the owners should be extremely proud of what they have achieved. We will definately be visiting again and have already recommended to friends.

We really enjoyed our recent break in Whitby and staying at the Engine Shed was a big factor in our lovely visit on the North Yorkshire coast.

The apartment was excellent, very clean, spacious and beautifully decorated.

The location was great, right in the town centre, and having parking was a bonus. We have stayed in Whitby many times but this was the best accommodation we have stayed in.

It was lovely and warm. The secure parking was great. We liked the welcome pack; a cup of Yorkshire tea was just what we needed after a long drive. A steam train fan's dream!

This accommodation is superb - very high standard in style, furnishings, etc , I can’t praise it enough .

The steam trains passing right past the window was amazing and not at all intrusive . The owner even bent over backwards to ensure the accommodation my parents took - Duchess of Hamilton, had added essentials for a disabled person . The closeness to the town and harbour was also a bonus . One little suggestion would be good is adding a chair to the lounge area with a standing lamp - only for a reading area . Not by any stretch a necessity but would avoid having to sit in front of the HUGE tv if not wanting to watch it . Well done to the owner having the insight to do what he has with the old buildings which would otherwise have been left to rot . Perfect in every way !!!!!

We had a wonderful week staying here.

Excellent location - railway station, bus station, shops, restaurants, harbour are all within a short walk. The apartment is beautiful and is really well equipped. We have stayed in many B&Bs and cottages in Whitby as we visit this lovely resort each year and this is the very best. We are planning to come back here next year. Thankyou.

A large one bedroom apartment close to all amenities.

The bedroom had a super king size bed, very comfortable. The living area had a large modern kitchen and lounge area, could have done with a small dining table, there’s plenty of room. The bathroom had a large powerful shower, heated towel rail(which kept the bathroom warm) and a heated mirror. There were 3 glass radiators, new to us, which worked well and warmed the place up quickly. Even though we were down by the station you still had a view of The abbey. Also benefitted from a private, secure garage from which you could get straight to the apartments. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend to all.

The location a few hundred yards from Whitby town meant that everything that we needed or wanted was only minutes away.

The apartment décor and fittings was well appointed, some of which didn't seem to have been used much as they were in pristine condition, but why would they be with many eating places in the vicinity. Large Co-op a few minutes away provides for any food purchases. The "Welcome" pack was a useful set of provisions to start with. Secured & reliable car parking was an immense benefit. Apartment was well sound proofed and no noise from adjacent apartments our external noise could be heard. Apartment was spacious enough. Plenty of cupboard space. North Yorkshire Moors railway running past the window. A pleasure not having to drive anywhere.

The apartment at the Engine shed exceeded our expectations.

As a small family having lots of room for our little one to run around was important - and our apartment gave us this! The rooms were beautifully furnished and very family friendly. The kitchen had everything we could ask for - including a washer/dryer which again, with a toddler it was needed! Everything in the apartment was spotless and the trains passing the window were an added bonus for our little boy. The location was amazing with a short walk to everything in Whitby. I can’t recommend the Engine shed enough - and we are already looking to book again soon! Such a hidden gem.
