Sitting in the heart of the village is one of the most popular pubs in Runswick Bay, The Royal Hotel. Boasting a sunny beer garden and framing sweeping views across the coastline, this one is a must-visit in the warmer weather.

Dine on home cooked meals, locally sourced fish, and a range of light bites. There’s also a dedicated children’s menu to ensure that the little ones are fed and watered.

Four-legged friends are welcome to join, and the pub is family-friendly until 9pm. If you fancy a pint of local ale or beer following a stroll along the beach, make a pit-stop at The Royal Hotel.

2. The Badger Hounds

Freshly baked pizzeria napoletana

Set on the outskirts of Runswick Bay, The Badger Hounds serves a menu of seasonal and locally sourced products. Pizza and pasta are served exclusively on Tuesdays, with the restaurant menu available throughout the week.

There are also daily specials, meaning there’s something different every time you visit! Seafood tagliatelle and creamy garlic or stilton mushrooms are just some of the delights on offer.

The Badger Hounds is closed on Mondays and is currently open from 5pm Tuesday to Friday and 2pm on the weekends. This may change during the warmer months, so be sure to check ahead of your visit to avoid disappointment.

3. The Runswick Bay Hotel

One of only two pubs in Runswick Bay, The Runswick Bay Hotel is an idyllic spot to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.

Food is served daily from 5:30pm, where you can choose between seafood, home comforts and local delicacies, included filled giant Yorkshire puddings! And if you’re exhausted following an excursion, you can even order to take away!

The Runswick Bay Hotel is a lovely choice for an afternoon tipple. Stop by in the week from 3pm or 12pm at the weekends to unwind with a crisp pint of ale. What’s better, your canine companions are welcome to join you indoors!

4. The Brown Cow

The Brown Cow is a cosy little pub set on the outskirts of Runswick Bay. “A proper pub”, The Brown Cow serves hearty meals and real ales, all beside a roaring open fire. There are even cocktails on tap!

Take a pew at the bar and unwind with your favourite tipple. If you’re feeling peckish, choose from a menu of pub specials including gammon and egg, lasagne or steak and chips!

Families and four-legged friends are welcome, and with live sport on the TV, you won’t miss your team playing!

5. The Smugglers Den

For something a little different, The Smugglers Den in Marske-by-the-Sea is a must. A quirky micro pub, graffiti art and rustic whisky barrels are amongst the distinctive décor.

Set inside a converted cottage, it’s cosy atmsophere is like having a drink in your own front room! Take a seat by the fire and choose between a delicious selection of real ales, spirits and craft beers. The party really starts upstairs, where you’ll find a Juke Box and a pool table. Will you win?

Unfortunately food isn’t served at The Smugglers Den, however the staff highly recommend Base Pizzeria & Bar nearby!

6. Jolly Sailor

Set further inland, the Jolly Sailor is a traditional stone-built double-fronted pub in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Wooden beams and a cosy open fire decorate the interior of this pub near Runswick Bay.

On the edge of the National Park, the Jolly Sailor is idyllically positioned for a much-needed visit following an outdoor expedition. The sample menu includes all the classics, including fish and chips and hunter’s chicken. There’s even the regions speciality, chicken parmesan, available.

Teatime specials are available weekdays between 5-7pm. Choose between 1, 2 or 3 courses, priced at £10.95, £14.95 or £17.95. Will you go for the strawberry sundae or the cheesecake of the day?

7. The Cod & Lobster

A self-proclaimed local favourite, you’re bound to have a great time at The Cod & Lobster in Staithes. Owing to its coastal location, this pub near Runswick Bay has suffered considerable water damage from the North Sea. Back in 1953, a storm even washed away the building’s facade.

Regardless, The Cod & Lobster is a wonderful spot to shelter from the elements. Gather around the fire and warm up with a hearty meal. Choose from warming curries, lasagne and garlic bread or juicy beef burgers. There’s also vegetarian, childrens and lunchtime menus available.

With a wide variety of spirits, cask ales, lagers and ciders on offer, The Cod & Lobster is an idyllic spot to unwind with your favourite tipple. Come rain or shine, you can soak in the awe-inspiring views across the bay.
